After perusing the overpriced crap and chipped china and passing by the sour faces of the hags that work there...

OMG, I got a kick out of that!  Cheesy

Yeah its not in the best area in town. but theres 4 right near each other and they  are very close to the soup kitchen and the mission. but like u i see every type of person.  so who knows what they meant. they always tell me they got some of old stuff u like  over there.  i love  old decorating books too. i only have 2 so far but i treasure them. i got 3 cool 1950s books from denmark but they have the most awesome abstract geometric covers on th2em i got them at the thrift for 4 dollars. and btw i got the kroehler sectional couch today i got him down to 325.00 im happy with it.  i want to post pictures but i havent got my living room the way i want it. plus i moved in my formica kitchen table today. so i got alot of work to do.  well ill post pics soon.

$325 for a vintage sectional is good from what I have seen Finding a cool sofa for a reasonable price is not easy, you must be very happy.  I have seen people who collect mid-century books for the cover art.  The Sal Army got rid of their more expensive pricing scheme for books and went back to the old prices, which includes 90% off for books with listed cover prices.  I have found a few recently to cut pictures out of for crafts.  Two 1950's childrens magazines one had a cover price of 15 cents and the other 25 cents, so the register rang it up as 1 and 2 cents.  The other a tatterted sewing book with cute pictures, it has a price penciled in the cover of 75 cents so they gave it to me for 7 cents.  I don't think I ever bought anything for a penny before at a thrift.

I did look again at the quilt today and decided to wait and see if it hangs around until half-price.  They put out a few more quilts which were really overpriced.  Two twin size Tommy Hilfiger comforters, look like they are for a boys room.  Nice condition but 19.99 for one and 29.99 for the other.  Anyone who buys those had obviously never been to Marshalls or TJ Maxx.

Maybe you will get lucky and get it on half price day. i hope you do.  that seems high for a quilt 19.99 and 29.99 . i usually hit up tj maxx for those things too. but sometimes it really suprises me what people buy and pay for stuff at thrift stores. im even suprised people donated it. for example i saw a girl wake out of the s.a with a beat up plastic  out door chair with pookie written in sharpie on the legs. om not joking  because i held the door for her.  and she paid 5 bucks.  but i just loved that someone wrote pookie really big on the leg. cant believe they put it out on the floor and someone bought it.  im sure u guys have seen stranger things than that.  u made me feel better about me paying 325.00 on the couch  . i know its worth it but its hard when she get good deals at thrifts.

Went to the Sal Army shortly before close today, which was the wrong move because they decided to have a last minute everything in the store (except furniture) 1/2 off sale, even new colors.  I was so bummed that I didn't here about it the day before, they had put up a small sign, but I missed it.  My quilt was gone and the store pretty picked over.  I don't really need more clothes anyway.

I had been eyeing this groovy hamper that was marked $5 so for $2.50 I decided to get it.  Also AE ballet flats I was looking at the other day- $2, I am surprised they were still there.  I decided to look at accessories which aren't usually 1/2 off so i got a pair of new Victoria Secret undies & Hue tights for a buck each.  Last but not least a veggie peeler which I needed for 15 cents.

It was a terrible thrifting week overall I didn't buy anything the other days, if i had caught this sale early i could have made up for it.

The manager of the Turners Falls SA has been with the organization for a long time as was her mother and other family members so she can pretty much do what she wants, which is why that one is better than the other area stores.  I noticed they are doing some renovation so maybe they needed to clear out some merchandise.  The guy at the register said the employees just found out about it on Thursday.

Vintage ice crushers are cute, I gave one to my Dad several years ago, he likes ice.  i have no idea if he uses it.  I have seen a few cute hampers in the past month or so, but they rarely last til half price.  That Sal Army seems to get good ones for some reason.  I have three now that I have bought from there.  Too bad I am not really in the market for clothes.  Last year the clothing donations were getting crappy at thrifts in general, now I see lots of nice clothes.  I wish it was the same for housewares and collectibles!

From Boston yes, not from me.  I do wish I lived in an area with a higher concentration of thrifts.  There are lots of thrifts in the Springfield, MA area and I hear good things about some of them.  I never have reason to go down there though.  Any one from MA ever thrifted in that area?
