Donated stuff yesterday, walked the store, found this:

Marked:  "Lane Altavista" Serial #  2389149  Style: 1166 54

I place it from 60s-70s.  Any ideas? It was $50.  Worth it?

Neat!  I like the shape.  I would think $50 was a reasonable price for what it is... I tried to see if I could find anything like it on the 'net, but all I came up with was this ebay auction-

http://cgi.ebay.com/Eames-Knoll-Danish-Era-Lane-Coffee-Table-1960s_W0QQitemZ230163124619QQihZ013QQcategoryZ63588QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem/

I'm having problems getting the url to work right in the post, hopefully you'll have better luck, but it's ebay Item number: 230163124619, if you just want to search it out on ebay.

It's the same style of table, but the smaller end table version.  They want $125 for theirs and I would think the coffee table would bring more!

Thanks, OTJ.  I checked it out. The legs look just the ones on the coffee table.  What's interesting is that it's $125 PLUS $40 for shipping, which brings the total one would have to invest in the piece to $165.  So maybe I did score a find after all. I just couldn't leave it behind because I so very rarely find mid-century furniture in thrifts in this area. The gods know, I don't need another piece of furniture in this house Smiley But this piece really has "fine lines, good bones".

Speaking of furniture, I had an interesting experience about a month ago. DH and I had to clean out his late parents' home of 60+ years of accumulation. Siblings and family would take what they wanted and the rest would be given away. We had two "antiques dealers" come in the look at the 1930s deco full dining room suite, handmade cedar closet, etc. and NOBODY wanted to buy any of it. Reason:  It doesn't sell. It seems (and I quoting both dealers) that "the younger generation doesn't want this old stuff. It wants IKEA and families today don't have dining rooms suites and they don't use dining rooms or cedar closets" We gave away the dining room suite to neighbors and the rest either got given to the SalArm or junked.

I mention this because of what the dealers told me they ARE looking for:  mid-century modern (suprise, suprise) and vintage kitchen items.  They kept eyeing the family room where all the stuff the family was taking was stored, which included Pyrex, Corningware, Revereware, etc. We think they already knew they didn't want the furniture when they agreed to come out; rather, they out to "see what they could see" and, possibly, buy.

Looks like it's in great condition, and the kidney shape seems to really fit practically in spaces.

Good score.  Finding room for things is always a problem.  Just rotate it in, or donate the existing table to a thrift shop.

That is all.

Thank you, guys, for all your kind comments!

I really had to debate with myself (as well as my DH) as to whether or not to bring this baby home.  You are a real support group here, for sure!  (Hello, my name is SeSo, and I am a thrift-aholic Smiley Smiley
