I can''t help myself when I find pyrex dishes.  I have too many.  I mean one does not need more then 3 mixing bowls.  I did sort all my pyrex last fall to pick my favorite patterns and ended up getting rid of some of it.

I''ve long been resisting my urge to start buying those rectangular Pyrex refrigerator containers. I quite like the solid color variety ... and am not sure how much longer I can hold off. The next time I see a good deal on some in good shape, I think I might have to bite. For some reason, they seem so much nicer than Tupperware.

Are they as functional as I am hoping, or should I stick with the plastic?

Oh I hope you''re not asking me.  Cheesy I also have a tendency to grab certain tupperwear when I see it.  That''s another drawer I finally cleaned out and got rid of the excess.  I guess I just enjoy the pyrex patterns.  I have a ton of those individual round bowls, the small rectangular ones with glass lids liek you mentioned, and I can''t seem to leave the little ones that a baked potato would fit on alone either.

I had to cool my heels with the Pyrex, too.  I don''t have much room and I''m pretty well set with what I''ve got.  I''ve got a set of four mixing bowls that Good Buddy got me for Christmas a couple of years ago from Community Thrift and then I have a set we thrifted a while ago with orange and yellow flowers on them that are stored in the garage.  I''ve also got large and small casserole dishes with white pyrex covers and an olive design on them.
Butterprint is my favorite and I have two mixing bowls of that design.  That''s the pattern I ultimately would like to have everything of.  I just can''t decide if I like blue on white or white on blue better.  As far as storage, I prefer Tupperware.  I guess I''m always kind of afraid that I''ll drop a glass pyrex lid after it''s survived 35 years intact!  I do use the casseroles for cooking, though.  I just try to use them minimally since I''m a klutz.

...but all bets or restrictions need to be off if you see a piece in a size or shape you don''t already own.  I mean, I did not even know I needed a five inch pie plate until I saw it!!!

I have a real weakness for baking stuff -- I got two of those fluted Baker''s Secret black forest type pans for 79 cents a piece on Saturday.  I hadn''t realized how cool it would be to have that style pan until I saw them -- and it makes far more sense to buy thrift than retail when it comes to that type of thing.

I do admit that there is no reason to by a regular Pyrex pie plate because I already own five or six.  But then again, when one is bringing a pie to a friend''s house for dinner, it''s nice to bring a plate you don''t have to worry about having returned.

Here is a good rationalization: buy when the stuff is cheap so you can leave it at a friends the next time you bring a dish for an event.

Thriftily,
Alexandra

I had a set of Butterprint mixing bowls, but when I moved that was one of the things that needed to find a new home (via the thrift shop, of course ... karma counts!). I miss them.

I quite like your rationalization, Alexandra. I think that I might have just opened up a new "door of opportunity" for my next thrift shopping outing. If I''m lucky that will be tomorrow! Pyrex, here I come!

I have several different patterns, several blue on white and white on blue snowflakes, pink gooseberry, pink daisy, blue butterprint, butterfly gold... you get the picture.  I have 2 solid pink but different shades of pie pans.  I have never seen the dot or rainbow stripe patterns in a thrift store or anywhere else for that matter but would take both if I could find them.  (like I need more!) Also wouldn''t mind finding some of the promotional items.

I like Tupperwear but anymore wonder if I ought get rid of the tupperwear and just use something like Gladware.  Those are easy to stack and don''t take up as much room.  Very hard to get rid of the tupperwear though.

I have way over 50 bowls and I consider myself addicted, I have Pyrexia which is an addiction to pyrex(I made that up!), I like the more plain color bowls, the Primary colors, pink, turquoise, I have a few patterns, I like the dots and stripes also  - I have more since this picture and I did get rid of some(selling on ebay, giving away to friends and I broke one!)

I found a cute pink pyrex casserole dish with white flowers-- complete with lid-- today, and I simply couldn't resist it.

I'm going to have to whip up a casserole and initiate it into the house!

Have you seen the prices of vintage Pyrex on-line and in vintage stores?  It has skyrocketted -- Pyrex is one of the hottest collectibles these days.  Darlin', your stash is worth a small fortune... ok, a small one -- but a tidy sum to be sure!
