I can''t help myself when I find pyrex dishes.  I have too many.  I mean one does not need more then 3 mixing bowls.  I did sort all my pyrex last fall to pick my favorite patterns and ended up getting rid of some of it.

That's cool. My friend that I do the antiques & collectables shows with specializes in Pyrex.

I too love Pyrex but I had to get rid of mine when we sold the house.  I had lots of the pattern from the 70's or 80's, the harvest gold color.  My daughter took it so at least I still get to see it when I visit her.

The picture of all your bowls is great.  What a colorful kitchen you must have.

My goodness!  I just looked on ebay at the Pyrex and it goes for lots of money, especially sets.

I looked at my first pieces of Pyrex yesterday - what are the nicer pieces to look for, and what are the prices that should be paid?

Just wondering.

That is all.

As a dealer of vintage Pyrex I can tell you that right now the sets we get the most money for are the solid pink set, the Gooseberry pattern in pink, and the Citrus (orange and yellow), Friendship (red, yellow, and orange with birds on alternating pieces), and Verde (different shades of avocado green) patterns.  The classic primary color set (red, yellow, green, and blue bowls) and the Butterprint (white bowls with an amish motif & blue roosters) were very desireable a year or 2 ago, but are on their way down as far as popularity and value go.

What patterns are popular any given year depend on what Martha Stewart and others with shows like hers use on TV.  If Martha bakes cookies on TV and uses a mixing bowl in the Spring Blossom pattern then that pattern becomes immediately popular and more expensive.

IMO, the nicest pieces are the ones that I will actually use and the ones that will go with my kitchen decor.  So I am the person who will pass on the pink variations!   Tongue
I have no idea what the going rate is on Pyrex, but I paid $3.99 for a medium sized rectangle dish with a flat glass lid.  That seemed reasonable enough to me, since it had it's lid and was free of chips or dings.

The one I had seen first was a "Butterprint" in blue large mixing bowl for $6.00.  That seemed kind high to me, and I passed.  I also saw some avocado casseroles with gold swirls on the sides with clear glass tops for $6.00 and $8.00 which also seemed kind of high.

I hope Jay isn't sitting as his computer right now screaming "go back and get those casseroles you idiot!  Those are from a 1972 limited production run and are worth hundreds!"

I kind of like the ones with stripes, so I'll just keep looking for those.

That is all.

At those prices I would have passed on the caseroles too.  I did forget to mention that the dots pattern and the stripes are very popular (Expensive).  If you come by the dots pattern the rarest and most valuable bowl is the large bowl with the avocado green dots on it.  That bowl on its own is worth about $50.  On rare occasions I have seen the complete dots set in thrifts for $40.  It was like buying the green bowl and getting the rest of the set for free.

I'm going to pick the Pyrex section of your brain some more, Jay -

I was at a newer GW on 35th and Greenway today at lunch.  Saw a divided casserole with clear top showing a aqua color with snowflakes on it.  Price $6.99.  I'd say it was a small to medium sized piece.  I didn't buy it.  Did I blow it?

That was a good price if you were buying for yourself, but too much if you were buying for resale.  I sell them for about $10 - $12 each.  I like the pattern, but it isn't very popular.  That pattern is available in 3 colors.  Matte black, teal blue, and pink.  I usually just stockpile that pattern until November and sell it as a seasonal pattern right before Christmas.  I usually pay $2 - $3 for them.  I don't see them in nice condition often at that price, but considering I have a year to find enough for 1 show it works for me.  The same goes for the harvest wheat pattern.  I usually only bring it out right before Thanksgiving.

I have way over 50 bowls and I consider myself addicted, I have Pyrexia which is an addiction to pyrex(I made that up!), I like the more plain color bowls, the Primary colors, pink, turquoise, I have a few patterns, I like the dots and stripes also  - I have more since this picture and I did get rid of some(selling on ebay, giving away to friends and I broke one!)

Gasp! I think I may be catching Pyrexia too, especially after seeing that beautiful photo of your collection. Although I do use restraint. I can't resist pink Pyrex, any small casserole dish with a lid or the design with the folksie pictures of the cat, rooster and coffee grinder, but otherwise I usually dont' buy it because it's marked up too often. I have a pink Pyrex pie plate, which I love to say for the alliteration.

I'll have to post a picture of our booth at the DC Big Flea when we set up later this month, and that's not everything!  We usually have boxes of stuff we didn't even unpack!  I always like to be prepared and have extra merchandise on hand in anticipation of very good sales.

bumping up with a question to Jay - at a thrift store today the owner told me, as he was wrapping up several pyrex bowls, that it's getting very collectable right now and some pieces going for decent money.  I suppose it depends on the pattern, but do you find alot of people collecting it now?

Yes, Jay a question for you as well:  That lovely white bowl that hhanse57 posted 9/16 in her photo link, the one with the pink and brown design...what is the name of that design?  I totally lovelovelove it, and it would match my kitchen in some strange sort of way.

(And here I was, feeling chipper that I found two Pyrex yesterday, one brown on white and the other white on brown design...you know, that design with the cat, the corn and the coffeemaker on them Tongue Tongue )
