I have collected elephants since the day my dad came home from work and gave both me and y brother an elephant figurine. People were always giving him cool things like that.
I don't have a vast amount of elephants, but whenever I see a special one, I buy it. I like the elephants that I collect to retain the mysterious elegance of the animal.
Today I went to Savers on a whim and was about to leave when I came face to face with something that has now begun my "sub-collection" of pink elephants. There is a lot of quirky stuff out there referring to the old urban legend of pink elephants, which are only visible after a few drinks. Therefore pink elephants always come accompanied by the equally elegant theme of swanky  cocktails. I have seen a few and I even rode a flying one to Albuquerque once. However, I think that my obsession is more deeply rooted than my career in drinking. I thank Disney's Dumbo.
See here my collection: a set of four tin appetizer plates, a fuzzy lamp and a cocktail shaker (today's latest and greatest find), all decked out in the perfectly wild, rare and exotic pink elephant.
See also, rare footage of a pink elephant worship.

What a great little collection!-- and thanks for sharing the history of such a great, quirky theme with us.

I have a few elephants myself. They're family elephants, really.

I understand from my dad, that my one great-great-aunts was a missionary long ago in India. So I have a number of little elephants-- one very heavy and cast metal, and one a bit worked over but with ivory details on it... One of my room themes has a bit of a Victorian-India feel to it, so they elephants are pretty happy there.

What cute elephants!!!!!  Wow, you did great to find such cute stuff and that goes with your collection.  If I might inquire how much were the elephants?  It's always interesting to find out what the various thrift stores think of the items they're selling.

I looked up the big pink elephant that you also had a photo of.  It used to be in Cleveland GA but has been moved to Hernando FL.

When I'm back in FL I'll have to go look at him.  I love quirky stuff like that.

So you have a career in drinking?Huh? Are you a bartender?  A professional drinker, like a wine taster?Huh?

Cheesy Well, I am 23 so my career has been short lived, but that is all I mean. I don't get paid to drink, but you have a good idea going there....
I was only joking, don't worry. I do however have a taste for microbrew beers (Colorado has more microbreweries than any other state), good wine and the perfect cocktail (Tom Collins with real lime juice and agave nectar).
Oh, and the Elephant in the photo is one of many around the country. I don't know much about all of them, but there is one in Springfield, IL where I grew up. He's a notable figure around town. He holds a cocktail glass, rides around on a flatbed and people rent him out for parties. He used to live in the parking lot of Goodwill and was damaged in the tornado that tore through the area in March 2006. But he survived and is now in good shape.
I think that I paid $3.99 for the cocktail shaker and $0.99 for the plates. The lamp... couldn't have been anymore than a few bucks.

I remember us having the elephant conversation before.  My daughter lives near Springfield and we'd gone to that Goodwill store when it reopened after the tornado.

The elephants are cute and you got some great bargains.
