$55 later...
i have a gorgeous $2 lamp~ not counting the nail polish i had to use to cover a chip in the glaze.

It is truly a piece of orange magnificance!  Where did you finally get the lampshade?  My congrats to you!
so, this was a learning experience about lamp design.. i thought i could just pick something up and rework it to make it look nice, but because the base of the lamp is SO large, i had to get a lampshade that had a gigantic diameter. unfortunately, older shades that size are also very TALL and that makes the base look dated,,and ugly Wink. i ended up buying for retail (gasp!) a lampshade at a lampstore. the good news is, when i told the salesman i needed all the extra parts too (we had to rewire - everything was rusty and the harp was too long) he gave them to me gratis.
so, now we know how to rewire a lamp, and have learned much about proportion and design when working with table lamps. although we are out more than i expected, there was much learned (knowledge is priceless). and i've got a beautiful piece in the living room.
btw, the chair in the background came from friends' divorce sale and is from the 30's or 40's and beautifully carved on the arms down the front. and the couch came from salvation army - it's a modern designer piece. the haywood wakefield coffee table is between them..
if you don't count all the dog hair and dirty socks and books laying around, the living room is starting to look nicely designed~! Cheesy

It is a great learning experience with a tangiable. reward at the end (unlike so many learning experiences, lol). That lamp is now a one-of-a-kind item that graces your home and will give you years of light and viewing pleasure (maybe even resale value later on); think of the treasures you can "rehabilitate" because of knowledge gained. OTOH, think of the money you'll save NOT buying stuff because you'll choose not to waste the time/money by/in fixing it all.  Good Job!!

That is a lovely lamp!  And great job picking out the lampshade!  It gives it just the right blend of old and new... I love it!

I found a really nice orange glass tray at GW for .99. I dont know anything about it, other than I like it, it reflects light beautifully and has a good weight to it. It goes nicely with the vase I found awhile ago.

Very unusual & lovely, reminds me of one of those clear fruit hard candies-yum!  It will look nice with that vase, I remember that one.  Those vibrant colors are very in now.  Great find!
