I searched around to see the Iroquois Casual China.  Wow, that's really neat stuff.  How cool is the stacking cream and sugar?  Quite cool.  Do you collect a specific color?  The styling of the teapot is VERY cool, too.  I see that they have original and restyled pieces.  Do you lean one way or the other?

This forum is great.  I am learning so much about other things. Thanks for sharing your pattern with me.

I agree it is neat stuff! We mix and match colors, which makes for a fun-looking dinner table. We also mix and match the original designs with the redesigned pieces, although I personally like the original shapes better than most of the redesigns.

Plus, as you stated earlier, mix and match makes for easier thrift shopping. I don't think I could bear to pass up a piece of Casual China in good condition, regardless of color or style.

Love your dishes!  Last summer while in Reno I was at a small crowded unorganized thrift store.  I happened to see lying in a bin 3 egg cups in the Starburst pattern.  I grabbed them up so fast.  I searched all over the store for the 4th egg cup but didn't find it.  The best part of finding them...50 cents each!  I looked them up on ebay and they were selling for around $50 each.  I've put them away and will sell them someday.

Here's a picture of Franciscan Oasis that would go wonderfully with your patterns.  A few years ago I stumbled across 4 plates in the pattern at one thrift store.  I snatched them up for like a dollar a piece and then sold them on ebay for I think $60+ for the 4.  I really liked the shape of them, not totally round but a slight oval with a nice depth to them.

Here's another pattern that you might like too.  It has that atomic look to it.  Salem North Star I believe is the name.

When I get back to FL I'll start looking around for all these patterns.  FL because that's where most of the grandmas retired to and I seem to see more of these patterns there.  But I'll keep my eyes open and pick up the pieces that I find.  I wouldn't mind shipping the finds to anyone who wants them, as long as you pay for the shipping Grin

Occasionally, I run across one glass from these sets also but it's usually only one glass.  Below are pictures of two different sizes of blue heaven glasses that I'd found at a thrift store and sold, and one north star glass.

What kind of glasses do you use with your set of dishes?

I would be willing to do the same. While I can appreciate designs like these, they are not something I collect myself, so helping out one of you guys by passing it along would be great. Moonie, perhaps put an ad in the classifieds section with how much you are willing to pay for a certain piece, etc.

Absolutely-- Me, too! If you put it in the classifieds, I'll certainly be more than happy to keep an eye out for it.

I find I still can't help but pay attention when I thrift, for Alexandra's "Park Lane" stuff, so it's no trouble adding something else to the list. :-)

Angie, I have an entire set of Starburst, serving bowls and gravy (alas, no tea pot)  I collected it several years ago, but I never use it. I even have three starburst glasses, which I found separately. I think I have service for 8. I was thinking of selling it all on ebay in the future, because I want another set of dishes, something a little simpler, though I do love the ovoid (I think that's what it's called) shape and I also love the weight.

Jay, I just read somewhere that the tea pot is the **most ** collectible piece of Starburst, as it is the hardest to find (but I bet you know that already)

Wow-wee.  I would LOVE to have a ton of Starburst.  You are a lucky duck.

My mother had to have her ovoids removed.

Question (and, sorry I've been away for a while!)... Wasn't that starburst pattern also used on sour cream glasses?  We did have that around the house when I was a kid, and I seem to recall sometimes sour cream was sold in juice glasses with that pattern.

And speaking of Park Lane... I found a set of four dessert-type glasses in Geneva, NY last weekend.  It was a cool find, since I didn't have this size in that color -- but being color-blind, I don't know if it's green or amber... but I do know I have that size in aqua.  It was three bucks for the set -- which put me right in the price range I try to stay in (.79 cents per piece).  At the Antiquemart, a set of four stemmed drinking glass is priced substantially more -- I've been walking by them for the last month or more and tsk'ing at the price.

This set is a little cloudier than I usually like -- but it's free of chips and in very good condition.

Thriftily,
Alexandra

Welcome back, Alexandra! Been wondering where you've been.

Tell me about those sour cream starburst glasses. I'm intrigued. How tall were they?

Congrats on your Park Lane find!  Did you ever figure out the color?

Alexandra, I saw the picture of the Park Lane on your blog. They are amber colored. Nice score!

The sour cream glasses were small tumbler size (probably 8 oz).  They had a plastic top.  I think they were put out by Breakstone.  We had quite a few in the house when I was a kid -- and I remember those, and the jelly glasses we used to get (Flintsones, Mr. Magoo, etc.).

Talk about a trip down memory lane!

Thriftily,
Alexandra
