The movie "Mixed Nuts" didn't get very good reviews, but the shop that the character Juliette Lewis plays is so gorgeous.  She goes on to decorate Steve Martin's office for Christmas.  I could watch this movie just to see the eclectic way that she decorates.  The movie is great to watch around Christmas.  Also stars a young Adam Sandler.
If you like lots of lights and a romantic look, you'll like her style of decorating.

I love a good vintage decor. Mixed Nuts is a Christmas classic in our house. That and A Year Without a Santa Claus (with Mr Heat Miser & Mr Snow Miser). My favorite scene in Mixed Nuts is where the tranny is dancing an elaborate dance with his scarf and ballet moves and Steve Martin walks by and gets picked up and tossed. Every time I watch it it cracks me up!

Never saw that one, but sounds intriguing!  I loved the look of the backgrounds in Sweeney Todd, even though its a bit dark.  And a great movie too, now that I am thinking about it I want to rent it again.  Smiley

If we're talking awesome interiors in movies, I have to mention Far From Heaven. Great movie and great looking movie.  I want everything single thing in that house and all of Julianne Moore's clothes (and her body to go with it).

I love ...  Mr Heat Miser & Mr Snow Miser

Did you see they have their own special this year? I missed the first showing, but bet it will be on again.

Let's talk mid-century modern.  Let's talk Blast From the Past.  The furniture, the appliances, everything is a dream for thrift shoppers.

I also like Doc Brown's House in the 1955 scenes of the Back to the Future trilogy.  The woodwork is amazing.

The Incredibles features (albeit animated) mid-century modern furniture and fixtures.

Doc Brown's house is a Craftsman, I believe-- and he has the BEST collection of lamps and shades.... There are a TON all over the room.

I was entranced. (Y'know, due to my lamp addiction.) Smiley

Off topic but thought you might be interested to know that this year the Miser Brothers have their own television special. I think it's airing on the FAM, but I'm not positive.

How about the Mission Oak in the tv series Numbers? Every time they show a scene shot in that house I break out in envy.

YES! Oh gosh, I thought I was the only one who admired Charlie's house in Numbers!

Some burglars broke in and broke some pottery, and I felt the pain myself. Smiley There's some great decor in that series!

I also drool over movies that are set in the 1700's or 1800's.  The Europeans really went over the top.  WOW!
A good way to find the best interiors in movies is to go to the oscar website and find all of the movies that won or were nominated for Best Art Direction.  I have a wonderful book that lists them.  Here are some examples....
Out of Africa 1985......also has my favorite sound-track of all time.    Dangerous Liaisons 1988    Moulin Rouge  2001
Chicago 2002   Sweeny Todd  2007   Camelot 1967  These were all winners.  That's just a small sampling.  The British Academy Awards have their own say-so too.  This is just a fun way to watch some great movies and watch specifically for fantastic sets.

Some of the most coolest interiors in any movie were in the French film, Diva.

Not only did they all seem to have killer high-end audio gear, but the interior murals and spaces were flippin' awesome.  Lofts in parking garages, railroad flats, lighthouses, warehouse lofts, harlot apartments with expensive lighting gizmos, the list is endless.

For the Heat/Snow miser fans - good news!!! The special is on the ABC Family channel Saturday - December 13th at 8:00. Thank you so much for letting me know!! I don't have cable (one of the many Reasons Why I Thrift) but that gives me plenty of time to get someone to record it for me!

Ladies and Gents:  The creaky, cranky old lady on the board will now reply to this thread with her favorite movie Christmas decor.  Dust off those history books, kids, for a journey to the....20th Century!  (groan!!! Old people are so annoying aren't they?  Wink Wink)

My favorite Christmas movie decor is from the classic 1950s Spencer Tracy/Katherine Hepburn movie, "Desk Set".

Hepburn's NYC apartment is furnished in an delightfully bohemian and eccentric manner and the office interiors are fresh mid-century modern. When I was a little girl in the ancient times, I would watch this on B&W (that's black and white) TV and just sigh. I wanted Miss Hepburn's apartment. I wanted to work in a research center in NYC and date a guy who was a genius, like Spencer. I wanted to go to that Christmas party!

The Christmas party (yes, we were allowed to call them Christmas parties back in the olden days) scenes are true classics. Very pre-"Mad-Men".
