Tho VHS is inferior to Beta and DVD, I still have hundreds of VHSs, mainly transferred from Beta, mainly 1960s TV shows, news, sports, music. I've had problems with DVD players that stick/skip but on the rare occasions when a VHS or Beta machine ate my tape, it's easy to splice it. I also still have a turntable and an 8-track and a lot of music cassettes, CD, but no iPod.

I also have a ton (probably not far off) of albums, cassettes, and CD's.  I also have an iPod, which is nigh-on unbeatable from an ergonomic and convenience standpoint.  But, when I am at home, 90% of the time I'm playing an album if I'm playing anything.  There's just something about an album that's just so damn satisfying.

Admit it.  You like to watch the records spin.

Yes, that's true, but it also takes some skill and knowledge to set up a turntable correctly; even more skill and knowledge is needed to find a salvageable turntable, make it work, and make it sound good.  There are a lot of adjustments to be made, cartridges to find, counterweights, etc.

Then you have to find the good vinyl.....

Well, I'm relatively certain I found a quality turntable, but when I tried to find a cartridge for it, the salesman in the store kept asking me what kind of music I wanted to listen to on it.  They didn't comprehend "General purpose, relatively inexpensive so I can sell this on Ebay."

A simple, base model Shure cartridge will work fine for what you want.

or something along those lines.

If they had suggested a cartridge like that 15 years ago, I would no longer have the turntable.

I still have a VCR but don't go out of my way to buy tapes, the rewinding & ff is a pain.  Someone on Freecycle was offering The Cable Guy on VHS and I always heard that was pretty good so I picked it up, will watch it on the weekend.  I usually just use the Redbox for movies as once I have viewed them once or twice I am not likely to watch it again.  I would like to find some TV series either on DVD or VHS but I never see any good ones at the thrifts or even yard sales.
