My wife and I are heading to NY tomorrow for our 25th reunion (we were high school sweethearts and graduated from the same school, same year).

While there, I'll probably get a chance to poke my head into some of my old sources.  With my luck, I'll find killer stuff with no way to get it back home.

I'll let you know how it goes around 7-31-07.

That is all.

When I was in Seattle a couple weeks ago, I told myself that if I came across any killer deals for big stuff, I'd pay what it takes to ship it back home. Some stuff is just worth the effort!

Unfortunately I didn't find any big stuff to send home, although I did purchase a set of furniture on eBay (yikes!) which I then had to turn around the very next weekend and drive 6 hours to Ohio to pick up. Adding up the cost of the furniture plus the cost of renting a truck, it turns out we still came out with a pretty awesome deal!

We did head into NYC for a day, but not to thrift.  I hit a couple of my old haunts on Friday, while my wife was visiting with an old friend.  I was disappointed to say the least.  The two places looked similar, but prices had gone way up and the Goodwill in Centereach, LI had undergone an interior remodel, and it was cold, unfamiliar, and disorganized.  Housekeeping was poor, prices were up, and selection was down.  I needn't have worried about finding any "killer deals."

Selden Thrift (I don't think this is a charity thrift, but I don't know for sure) was also pretty much a disappointment.  They had some good older albums, but at $3.99, 4.99, and 8.99 (Wh-Wh-What???) I'll pass.  I did see a couple of long sleeve shirts, but I didn't need them and they were $6.99 and 8.99, and there was no discount in effect for their color tags.  I didn't bother hitting either of the other two stores I used to visit somewhat regularly.

Generally, the trip made me realize how flippin' sweet I have it in Phoenix.  I did pick up a bunch of NY Mets stuff on clearance at Modell's (a discount sporting goods shop in the Metro NY area).

Not a bad trip, but nothing going on down there, dudes and dudettes.

That is all.

I bet it's sweet in general in AZ. SO much less crowded than out here.

Selden Thrift is part of a group of thrifts out here. The others are Northern Thrift in Huntington, North Shore Thrift in Port Jefferson, and Island Thrift in Brentwood. Far as I'm told, they get their goods from the Vietnam Veterans Association. And they're the ones that make me complain about their stupid record pricing - they all do that. No wonder I've seen the same records there for a year.

Island Thrift (near the RR Tracks to the north) and North Shore Thrift (on 112) were the other two I was going to hit, but just got discouraged and didn't bother.  I also used to be somewhat successful at the Goodwill in Northport (or wherever it is) on Jericho Tpke. near Elwood Rd.

I don't really know what I was looking for, just feeding an addiction, I guess.

That is all.
