I guess the pothead who donated the the marijuana forgot where he hid his stash!

Speaking of amazing donations, I was watching a show on the Discovery Channel the other night called Accidental Treasures, or something close to that, and there was a guy who found a copy of the Declaration of Independance from the John Quincy Adams presidency at his local thrift.  He paid $2.48 cents for it and it sold at auction for $400,000.  His take after auction commision and taxes was $250,000.  Pretty good for a $2.48 investment.

That show is not bad, but not my fave antiquing show.  It has actually received some backlash, even from other dealers.  Here is a funny video on Youtube spoofing the show:

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/BtNeEcy3J1E&amp;ap=%2526fmt%3D18&amp;rel=0" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/BtNeEcy3J1E&amp;ap=%2526fmt%3D18&amp;rel=0</a>

I wouldn't quite call them swindlers, but the reason they must love to go to these farms is the farm owners probably don't realize the value of some of the stuff.  Ironically the makers of the Youtube video post a link to buy "American Swindler" t-shirts at the end of their video so they are hardly ones to criticize.

You were right about the backlash!  I read a few entries re: American Pickers on the History Channels blog.
