I used to go down to New Hartford with my family in the summer or fall.  My aunt's partner has a family home down there, its called The Rafters (the houses have names in that neighborhood), it is owned by the Zimbalist family.  It is lovely there, must be a great area for antiques!  I have not been down in years now that my aunt is in Palm Springs but have many fond memories.

Valleythrifts - the home you speak of is about 1 mile from where I live. I believe one member of the Zimbalist family was an actor. Area getting pretty with Fall foliage as I am sure it is where you are.

Hey- small world!  Yes Efram Zimbalist Jr, is an actor most known for his roles in the 50's & 60's, his daughter Stephanie is also an actor best known for her role on the 80's TV show Remington Steele.

The foliage is just starting to pop here, it comes on so fast and is gone too soon!

Hi, I'm in Brownsville, South Carolina. I live out in the woods, about 70 miles west of Myrtle Beach, and 20 miles from the NC border. I do my thrifting in Florence, SC. There are lots of shops there to prowl through.  Wink

Just read thru this thread... lots of thrifters all over!  Cheesy

I am in the Boston area.  I lived in Alaska for 15 years and have been back for 5 years.  There's not a lot I love about living in the city, but awesome thrifting opportunities is definitely in my Top 5.  I find something spectacular (my version of spectacular is probably very different from anyone else's) at least once a week.

Anchorage, Ak, hey, akgem, I send you a little email, thrifting here I think is different, there are military bases so a certain amount of turnover & moving in & out but not a lot of "older" stuff like I see discussed here. I mostly look for books. Then I trade them at the big used book store where I have hundreds of dollars of trade credit...

Hi akbjr,

I went to UAF, met my hubby and then stayed.  We lived 14 years in FBX and 1 year in Wasilla.  The thrift scene is definitely different in AK.  Lots of Carhartts and boots!  There used to be a terrific Bishop's Attic in FBX, but it closed.  Embarrassed  The thrift here in Boston is unreal!  Books, collectibles, clothing, pottery all good!  We miss AK mostly in the summer and spring.   Smiley

I used to live in Sterling! Why are you looking for local people? Are you putting something together?
