Yes some folks just don't get it. We just went to our local H4H ReStore and some of their prices are great and some are just idiotic.
Welcome brother!

Yes, especially since the overpriced stuff is mainly crap anyway.  We do have a few thrifts here that have some great deals, but the stuff coming in isn't as good as it used to be, plus there seems to be more competition as well.  Welcome, hope to here about your great finds!

Hi Rob, and welcome!
I am like you, getting tired of the silly prices.  I was at the GW yesterday and they had a plate marked $20.  I thought if they had that plate marked for $5 I would still wait for it to be half off. Probably wasn't $20 brand new.

A lot of the ones around here (Philadelphia) are staffed by people who either buy everything at Walmart or whose idea of fashion is ghetto fabulous.  Roca Wear, for example, is priced up to the high heavens.  Anything with a label that you'd associate with either Walmart, or some other low-end retailer, gets priced very close to retail.

REAL high-end stuff is often priced absurdly cheaply.  A couple of years ago I got a Stella McCartney dress for $5, and years before  a Christian Lacroix dress -- still with its tag from Bergdorfs for $1,275 -- for $7.50.

I find that as already mentioned the pricing structure is random at best. There is nothing better than find something with the dollar store sticker on it and a thrift price of $2. Cheesy  Prices have gone WAAAAY up since the recession - you would think it would be the opposite but EVERY thrift around me is PACKED from the moment they open till the close. They know everyone has to shop cheap and they are taking advantage of the extra shoppers, IMO. Because even if GW wants $12 for a pair of jeans, they would have been $40 in the store.

I think that as more people check out the thrifts the store owners are seeing opportunity and raise prices believing that if one won't buy it someone else will come along.  And rarely will anyone with authority over prices be willing to listen to a rational comment on how something can be purchased new for the same (or lower) price. At best you get a response about how buying it here is a charitable act.   Also, here where the weather plays a role in availability of yard sales and flea markets, as temperatures drop, thrift prices raise.  Without the competition they mark things higher.
