Oh Yeah!

« on: January 12, 2008, 09:25:08 AM »

I was reading a yahoo list and clicked on this link. It's a wonderful site. I'm so happy to find so many like-minded ppl. My mother always went to rummage sales. She was also into auctions. We were way beyond poor . . . it was pathetic.

Now I'm very comfortably retired (but on disability, sigh.) I have haunted charity shops always. My kids were the best dressed on the block. Now the grandchildren are mostly grown (teens.) Of five, three have my 'thrift' gene. One, (16 yr-old girl) is the most addicted.

I am at a point in life where I am downsizing. I am parting with many of my 'treasures'. The charities are benefitting from this, as they did when someone else put them in their keeping and I took them home to hold dear.

I still go on regular shopping sprees. If I spend $40 in one day, know that I have the back of my SUV nearly full.

I've enjoyed reading about many of you in the "What do you do? section". It's wonderful to see so many young ppl making such wise and green decisions. It is a material world!

A person who won't read has no advantage over one who can't read.  - Mark Twain

Hi there and welcome!  I see you're a fan of Mark Twain - I'm in Missouri and have been to Hannibal a few times!

Hi Dew! Like you tag! Welcome, you are going to love it here seeings as we all have one thing in common, and that is thrifting, I swear once it gets into your blood it is such a hard habit to break, I take after my "Aunt Dot" who dressed the best, wore the best jewelry and conducted herself like a lady, she was a hard core thrifter, but would not only go to the best consignment shops but also the smallest crummiest thrifts, and she would always walk out with her arms full and look like a million! lol! Happy Thriftin....Ciao! Roll Eyes

Little Vancouver is next to Portland Oregon on the Washington side of the Columbia River. It's steeped in the history of Lewis and Clark and Ft. Vancouver.

I like to add that because some people see Vancouver, don't notice Washington and think I'm in Canada. Don't get me wrong. I adore the big Vancouver too!

I went on a bus tour with a group, years ago, to Victoria. I saw a Value Village from the tour bus. I could hardly control myself getting settled in. I wanted to go shopping. It was a terrific store and large to boot. I drug a few of the other people with me.
