I thrift, therefore I am.

« on: January 03, 2008, 07:40:44 PM »

I was planning to visit a friend in FL, and did an online search to see if I could find a thrift shop directory, so I could make her take me thrifting while I was there, lol. You know, come prepared with a printout of all the shop addresses. (She might find that weird) Lo and behold, I found THIS SITE! Just awesome. I have been reading the threads and checking out the blogs. This is just what I need... Smiley

Welcome to the board, Heather.  There are a few Floridians on the forum already, so they'll be able to give you the skinny on whatever you're looking for.

See you next time
bye for now.

Welcome, Heather! Since I found this board, I've found myself planning trips to places people have mentioned on here just for the great thrift shops!

And, by the way...I'm planning a trip to NYC in March to visit my daughter. Is there any good thrifting in New York that is not super overpriced?

BTW, for Christmas, my darling daughter bought me tickets to see my all-time fave, Aretha Franklin. I even cried when I opened the envelope!   Cry

I will be driving down I-95 to Ocala, FL. It looked like there were a lot of shops there.

Thanks for the welcome. Smiley

Greetings, Heather!

Central Floridian here. Ocala is "horse country" and supposedly there is a lot of money there. So do thrift there and visit as many as you can.

Also, if you have an opp to visit Gainesville, which is home to University of Florida (and those fabulous GATORS and Heisman trophy winner Tim Tebow Smiley) do so. It's a college town and should have some great thrifting. If you're driving DOWN from SC and find yourself on I-75, Gainesville is about 45 minutes NORTH of Ocala.

Wishing you a safe and adventurous thrift journey,

Welcom to the board! I am not a Floridian, but have enjoyed some very excellent thrifting in Ocala.  Good food too!

Thriftily,
Alexandra

Thanks, you guys!

The trip is ON. I am leaving Friday. I'll let you know if I find anything good. Although, from reading the forums during my brief time here, I am thinking you all may have a different idea of what's good!

I am going to try to expand my horizons a bit... Smiley

Thanks, Seso.

I don't think my last comment came out quite right. I am always on the lookout for the basics, and that somewhow seems less interesting than these other things I have never heard of (some of the brand names, etc.) That's all I meant.

Yes, I hope we have a a lot of fun. My first girlfriend get away in many years...
