Hi my name is Rachel; I'm 25 and recently moved from Tucson, Az to the very rural Emory, Texas. My nearest thrift store of choice is a Goodwill. I was very spoiled in Tucson, even more so when you consider I worked at a thrift store. Even before my employment at one, I was always in love with them. I'm an aspiring filmmaker (eep!! I have to mention my film,
<a href="http://mediaservices.myspace.com/services/media/embed.aspx/m=9772489" target="_blank">http://mediaservices.myspace.com/services/media/embed.aspx/m=9772489</a>
, which is about a girl who finds a used journal at a thrift store.)

Anyway, I've moved to Texas to live with my parents again and try and get on my feet financially. Thrifting will be a therapy for me especially during this time, as Im experiencing heavy culture shock, and thrift stores are familiar everywhere...in addition to just being a financially smart thing to do. Smiley

C'est moi,
Rachel

P.s. I am also on Livejournal: Cornykoreannerd where some of my recent thrifting finds can be found.

Hi Rachel!  That's a sweet little film.  I have a very small collection of diaries that I've picked up at antique stores.  (Never found one at a thrift, but I keep looking!)  My favorite is the 1948 diary of a 15-year-old girl who lived here in Sacramento.  She had a busy social life and she mentions a lot of long-gone businesses and neighborhoods that have changed so much she wouldn't recognize them if she saw them today.  It's fascinating.

Nice job on the film short!  I have never seen a diary at a thrift, but I always find it so sad to see picture frames with baby or kids pictures in them.  Even if you have copies of the picture, take it out before you donate the frame!  A picture or diary with some age to it becomes an interesting historical document, still I don't know how anyone throws out a piece of their family history.

Thanks:)
wow that 15-year-old diary sounds wonderful
I was inspired by a diary I found as well..it belonged to an old lady with impeccable handwriting, she wrote about daily tasks, and the writing stopped midway through the journal. fascinating is a good word to describe it!
