Hi everyone, I discovered this site by accident and wanted to introduce myself. I live in Northern Indiana and remember going thrifting to garage sales, GW and SA when I was a child in the 70's with my mother and absolutely hated it. Fast forward to the present and stumbled onto thrifting again when my mother asked me to go to the Goodwill close to my home to find some slacks for her to wear to work. Dragging my feet all the way I went to the GW store and while I didn't find any slacks I did stumble onto a fur stole for $10 (unsure if it is real or faux since the identifying tags have been removed) in excellent condition. This was my downfall and I then proceeded to search the store for other treasures. Discovered a pair of Cole Haan and Born shoes for $5 each in new condition and 3 pyrex nesting casserole dishes in the 1qt, 1.5qt and 2.5qt size in the daisy pattern minus the lids and are orange-yellow in color with the 1.5 qt being darker. I am now officially hooked and I am not sure I can break the habit. Glad to have found this website.

Welcome Emerald31, you will love this site. It's funny, you got me to thinking about also being "dragged" to thrifts in the 70's, when I was a "sensitive" teenager, & of course now thrifts are pretty cool places for many teens. My mom shopped at them & garage sales, & I didn't rediscover them until I was an adult. I really rediscovered them when I came up to Alaska with my sister in "93" with a backpack, then decided to stay. My first furniture came from SA's, & I still hold onto it. Now I have hundreds of books mostly from thrifts, because I love owning books & being able to read my favorites over again. This is a very cool site, you'll read a lot of stories about more things related to thrifting than you ever thought possible.

Hi Emerald31!!
Welcome.Thinking back to my childhood,my mother would drag my sister and i to our local SA for clothes for us.My sister and i would say "eeew" to my mom because they were secondhand. As an adult,i actually shop at Goodwill because i can buy the  name brand clothes and such at a  more reasonable price.I am not ashamed of thrift store stuff. All of my handbags and some of my jewelry come from Goodwill.I  am from Central Florida and haven't ventured into a SA yet.
Nice to meet you...****waving****.

Hi there!
You're practically a neighbor based on how widespread we seem to be on this board. I'm over in Toledo,OH. You are in for some fun. Thrifts in the Midwest get some nifty stuff!
