Hi!  New here; midwest area - starting to feel the cold!  I, too, thrift - lots of milk glass, wexford and such; my favorite to find cheap is the depression glass blue philbe - my best find so far were two covered custards for .75 each - now to find mugs for under the usual $25 price tag!   Also have been very lucky to find new Ralph Lauren for $3-5, which I love!  I have two kids, ages 9 and 11, and my daughter is great at spotting high end bargains in her size for cheap!  she's got the eye, for sure.

Yes!   She's getting the idea well.   We have many many collections here - vintage dolls, vintage lamps, depression & other glassware, old, old furniture, books (especially old ones but new too), my husband's stereo and fly tying obsession, son's growing train hobby (one great find was a ton of track for mere dollars), etc.   You name it, I bet we have some here! Hello and welcome - I'm a stereo (record and tapes as well) nut, so I can identify.

Enjoy all the fun.

That is all.

Thanks!  I do know that most of the stereo equipment in his barn/workshop and almost half of the stereo equip. in our family room were thrift bargains - and doing great, even better then some new stuff we had!

Hello fellow Mid-Westerner!  I'm in Iowa and yes, we too are beginning to feel the cold.  I love the change of seasons!  I guess I had better, living here!

Welcome to the forum.  This is the BEST place to share your ideas and stories about thrifting.  The best part is no one thinks you are a lunatic for being extatic over a box of vintage christmas ornaments found under some used underwear at a garage sale.  Everyone is happy!

You sound like quite the collector, as is the rest of your family.  I collect mid-century dishs, but I also have a soft spot for lamps and small furniture.

You are going to have a ball here.

Thanks!  Speaking of Christmas ornaments, I'm always on the lookout for the old 60s Jewelbrite line - remind me of the tree I grew up with (in addition to the old silver tree with color wheel)!

Greetings, Fellow Thrifter:

Love your pic!  And your signature Smiley  I must remember that, and place fine literature in the loo, just in case. Grin

I am not familiar with Jewelbrite ornaments.  Can you 'splain, Lucy?

Ciao,

Thanks! Smiley  The doll is a Betty Boop OOAK I "made" from a Mattel Kelly doll - I "do" dolls, clothing, repainting, rerooting for doll collectors - I love doing the Betty Boops!
Jewelbrite were from the 60s, a tinted plastic, jewel shaped ornament with reflective back and contained various tiny figures, etc. inside - here's a link to an ebay auction with them:

If link doesn't work, go to ebay and fill in 230184620042 and search

Ahhh, Betty Boop! An icon of my childhood. Your doll is fantastic. Reminds me of Gloria Swanson in "Queen Kelly".

Thanks for the link to the Jewelbrites. They are fabulous.  Are they marked on the head of the hook "Jewelbrite", the way "Shineybrites" are?

Oh!  So that is what those kind of ornaments are called!  I have a whole bunch of those that I have picked up over the years at thrift stores for cheap.  I think I finally have enough for a tree (a small one, at least), so will have to put them up this year or next.  They are FUN!

Another Midwestern here in IL who woke up to frost covering the ground.  Husband keeps turning on the furnace, and I keep turning it off.  Those jewelbrites are really pretty.  I just love Shinybrites and am always on the lookout for them.  Just wanted to add my
welome to the thread.
