Hello all,

Just found this forum while searching for store hours. Very fun place to be. Today's big find was a 60s era console stereo- all functions work for the grand price of $2.99! It will surely be a highlight in the living room.

Hello & welcome.  I passed over a similar sounding console stereo for under 5 bucks several years ago when I first started thrifting.  One of the many regrets.  Look forward to hearing about your other finds!

I'm in the middle of cleaning and moving things around for the hifi. Above it will go my boombox collection from the 80s and some other kitschy things. I'll grab some pictures and show off some of the other things that are great finds

Thrift Shop Romantic- I love the Red White and Blue Thrifts in Pgh and the Route 51 Goodwill just south of the burgh. It has been one of my treasure powerhouses since 1986!

Last year I read a book called Thrift Score. Just wondering if you were the author??? If memory serves me correctly, the author was from Pittsburgh...

Someone donated a whole bunch of snowglobes today at the SA, obviously a frequent visitor of Pittsburgh, as there were 3 or 4 of those.   I bought the older ones, 70's made in Hong Kong types, as we collect them including old souvenir globes.  One Pittsburgh, looks like it is supposed to be the airport?  Not sure what that building is.

That's the fabled Three Rivers Stadium of the "Steel Curtain Dynasty" in the back, the Incline rail car on the right, and (maybe?) a rendition of Fort Pitt.

Nice find.

Thanks for the info!  I have never been to the Burgh.  My daughter started collecting snowglobes years ago when my Mom went on a business trip to Kentucky & brought back a little snowglobe with a horse in it.  Now we have quite a few.  The older ones are hard to find even the 60's/70's Hong Kong types.  Probably if the water evaporates or yellows people pitch them.  I like how each globe is its own little world, something romantic about it.  I should put a freecycle request up for old snowglobes & see what comes out of the woodwork!
