Hi,

Just introducing myself:

Live in Phoenix near Thunderbird Road, hence my alias.  I am a college math instructor.

When I do thrift shopping, it is usually at local Savers or Goodwill stores.

At thrift stores, I have purchased pyrex and related bakeware, old flashlights, older telephones, old AC powered "solid state" radios, old scientific calculators, slide rules, hammered aluminum and related mid-century modern metalware, and various ceramics/ pottery.

I have also purchased some paintings, "needlework art", wine racks [for the flashlights Roll Eyes], chairs, tables, etc.

Welcome!

We used to live in Tempe so we know you have good thrifting there.
Funny how I too have a flashlight in our wine rack.
I guess great minds think alike...

Welcome to the board.  I knew that there had to be more of us out there.  I'm from the "valley" myself.  I'm up by Jomax and 67th Ave.

There are a lot of great minds here - someone seems to be an expert on at least one type of thrift interest, so you'll be in good company.

Welcome to the board.

See you next time,
bye for now.

Hi,

Just wanted to reply to everyone.  On flashlights, I started collecting antique multiple C and D battery flashlights, metal and otherwise, when I started realizing that many of these designs were or had disappeared.  In particular, the metal flashlights of the past with the exception of Maglites, which has contributed to their demise.

As a consequence, I have well over 150 flashlights dating back to the 1920s.  And 30 to 40 old telephones -- I worked for AT&T corporate as well as Bell Laboratories, although primarily in computers.  Most of these are Western Electric, although I have 2 Sromberg Carlson Square Corner Models and an AE 80.  I have a Moss Green model 500 that is connected to my phone line.

A note about this -- rather than a tone dialer which I acquired at Savers, I usually use a touch tone phone connected to the same line for "dialing".  I can always switch to the 500 at any time and I can use the phone for answering.  If they ever stop accepting rotary calling, I would just pursue this method.  BTW, if you didn't grow up in the era of "real" telephones, you only know what a ringing phone sounds like from the movies.

Thanks,
Bob
