Brand new here.  Great to find a site with fellow thrifters!  I have always loved thrift shopping and recently purchased  a large framed print of the "Lady of Shallot" painting for $7 on 1/2 price day at the Salvation Army and a new pair of Doc Marten oxfords at the GoodWill on 1/2 price day for $3.50.  Home decor and a pair of new shoes for under 12 bucks!

Hi Everyone,

I am SO excited to have found this forum and resource for locating thrift shops!  I have been thrifting since I first married 30 years ago.  Almost everything in my home and closet has come from Thrift Shops.  This will be a fun place to share stories and treasure finds!  Looking forward to getting to know you all

Grin   It's always nice to get new thrifting buddies to share with on here.  Welcome newcomers!  I love reading about all of your great finds.  It always inspires me to run and thrift shop the next morning, after I've sat up late reading this at night.  As I look around my house, all I can see are secondhand bargains that I have accumulated over 36 years of married life.  It's not that we can't afford to buy new things, it's just that I have a lot more fun buying bargains and saving the money for other things....like eating out!!! Hello,
I happened to run across this site as I was looking for thrift stores that might have used and unused bras. We support 9 women's shelters and are always looking for used and unused bras.

I am also a long-time thrift shopper. I have gotten some great deals from thrift shops.

My local thrifts have bras priced pretty reasonably.  The one cheaper Sal Army used to have them all priced 49 cents to 99 cents even new ones with tags.  I used to pick up some of the better brand ones with tags even if they weren't my size and sell them on Ebay.  Over the last month they stopped doing that and the new ones are now anywhere between 2.99-6.99.  The used ones are still 99 cents for the most part.

The items that are way overpriced at both Sal Army's are the accessories & socks, even used.  I can pick up cheaper socks on sales at Target, TJ Maxx, etc.  The hats, gloves & scarves are too much as well.  The food bank thrift is the only one with decent prices- $1.00 for all hats, scarves, & gloves.  50 cents for socks.

Very good post from BraRecycler.  I haven't thought about bras for the women's shelter, just warm clothes and stout shoes and boots.  I'll look for ones in good condition to donate from now on.

I live in AK, north of Anchorage.  Sally Ann rules the thrift store kingdom here.  We have a big military population so the thrift stores really turnover the household items, clothes, books and toys.  I keep a steady flow of wool/angora or the finer animal fibers through my closet.  The more eclectic items or “still-junk-not-yet-collectibles” show up less often.  But it's always a treasure hunt, the funnest avocation/hobby/pastime in the world.

I've been fortunate enough to stumble across a couple pairs of Doc Martens at my local Goodwill.  Great shoes that wear well and can actually be repaired if needed.

Nice to meet you, lots of Floridians! Hey, from North of Anchorage, I live in Anchorage, nice to see another Alaskan here, I see that you posted the end of November. I kind of didn't check the site for a few months, back to checking regularly now, I missed it. Have you ever been to Bishop's Attic in Anchorage, near 15th & on Gambell just down from Carrs. I live pretty near there & it's my favorite, as their prices are lower than Sally & they have monthly book sales at 10 for $1.00 for 1 week each month. The regular book prices are 3 for $1.00. It'a a very popular place...I've collected & read a lot of books from there which I then take to Title Wave for credit. It's fun. If you get there shortly after they open at 10:00 when the retired "book lady" is just putting books out, you can really score...
