Hi everyone

I am a professional crafter who is now addicted to thrifting.  Can't wait to turn some of my favorite items into art.  I worked with gourds for years but need a change.  This is just what the doctor ordered.  Thanks for this site and I look forward to chatting with you all.

Any one from Florida?

Happy thrifting

Valley Thrift--very impressed with your Etsy idea! You must be an excellent crafter!

I am from North Central Florida.  Wish it was cooler here.
Thanks to everyone for the welcome.  I sold crafts all over the south east and as far west as Nevada and as far north as Kentucky.

We have some good thrifting spots.  One of my favorites is a little local flea market up by Lake City.  Some times you run across some really good items.  I also like grace works in High Springs.  Good fabric some times.

Hi hollidais and welcome! I just joined over the weekend and I like to craft things from thrift shop finds as well. What are you thinking of turning into art?

I've been toying with Etsy as well. Is it pretty easy to set up shop there? I think it's great that such a site has been created!

Hi goodaim
I have been looking at etsy as well.  Don't know much about it  though but there are some good crafts made from thrifted finds.

I have found a couple of good wool sweaters and felted them.  I also LOVE old neckties and I make angels out of them.  And I use the scraps to make yoyo's.  I may make some purses but have not come up with a pattern yet.  I bought a wall scone for a candle made from beads for 50 cents and took it apart and my girlfriend is making a necklace and bracelet out of it.

Lets stay in touch

Hi hollidais - sounds like you have a lot of projects in the works! Funny you mentioned old neckties - haven't seen angels made from them, but that sounds interesting! Just this past Saturday, I saw a pillow at a local art gallery - the top had been decked out with what appeared to be dozens of very lightly-stuffed fabric squares. The fabric appeared to be old neckties. It would take a long time to make, but would be an interesting home decor item.

Also, in the latest Country Living magazine, a woman "upholstered" the back of a 1950's chair with neckties she'd sewn together. She's a thrifter too, I believe. She's done some wild stuff with furniture, like making chair seat webbing out of old leather belts.

Guess I will be hunting that issue of Southern Living.  You can google necktie angel but do images and there are some pictures.  I hand crochett my hair and use a handpainted wooden disk face.

I just got a greatnecktie today.  It is brown with peach, turquoise and ecru dots on it in a geometric pattern.  It is fabulous.  Also found some shabby chic fabric with roses.  Just scraps for a quater but I loved it so they are now home with me.
