Hi there,

Anyone else here from Iowa? I'm in Iowa City, and I shop the thrift stores in the area every few days. Collect mostly VHS and LP's.

Good luck with the LPs - that's what I look for as well.  I've found a few good ones, but most of the time I'm just browsing through stacks and stacks and rows and rows and shelves and shelves of Living Strings, 101 Strings, Jim Nabors, Mitch Miller, Al Hirt, Pete Fountain, Mantovani, Ferrante & Teicher, Barbara Streisand, really cheesy "Old-Timey Gospel" records with the uber-goofy covers and titles, and badly scratched and otherwise destroyed copies of stuff I'd like to own.  I also look at VHS, but usually when I'm looking for something in particular.  The trouble is, finding a good VHS player at a thrift is getting harder and harder to do.

Every now and then I'll find some good stuff to add to the collection.

I collect easy listening stuff, so I've picked up quite a few Living Strings, 101 Strings, and all that good stuff. A lot of the stuff at Goodwill is in pretty bad shape, but other stores have good quality stuff.

I'd look for some Martin Denny stuff - Quiet and Exotic - I think Good Buddy will back me up on this - He's more of a fan than I am, but I like Martin Denny.  I'm more of a fan of Arthur Lyman, though.  It's a little more jazzy.

Oh yeah, I always pick up Arthur Lyman, Les Baxter, Martin Denny, Yma Sumac, rarely find them in Goodwills or SA's, find them a lot more at consignment stores and such. Once in a while, I find some Enoch Light, but it's the thrill of the hunt!
