I have been lurking for a bit but I am new, not to thrifting, I have been a collector since Birth

My First collection was when I was about 4 or 5 years old...

When i was a little girl I cruised around on trash day and went to garage sales with my mother and the neighbor who lived behind us, also rummage sales at churches and such

Then in my teen years I went to thrift shops
and I have not stopped

My name Is Monica and I live on Long Island NY and there are zillions of thrift shops here, there are a lot of people looking for collectibles now so its getting harder & harder to find stuff!!!!

I have many prized items from many places, even when I go away I go thrifting, I went to the Salvation Army in Alaska and Canada Smiley

Hi Monica!  Welcome to TheThriftShopper.com.  My mom also introduced me to thrifting and church rummage sales.  I agree that now it''s getting harder to find stuff in thrift stores.  I guess I just need to get out there more and shop more often.  I''d love to do a thrift road trip in an RV that I can pack full of stuff!

Happy Thrifting,

Cookie

Cookie, you''re lucky because your mate shares your thrift shopping passion!  My husband goes crazy when I drag him anywhere near a thrift store!  However... he has no complaint in what I bring home for him!  I guess I compound the problem, because I''ve gotten really good at zeroing in on what I want -- and he doesn''t have any clue.  We''ll go through a store and because he doesn''t understand my strategy, he just follows around dumbfounded.  Of course, we''d be there all day if I explained my system to him.  Sometimes, he goes off exploring on his own... but mostly he''s out of his element.

So, when we''re anywhere together and I see a store, we make a plan for him to do something else and meet me back outside the store at an alloted time.  In fact, now that I think of it... a lot of times when we go out together, he asks to bring the dog along -- I think that is his escape plan.  He goes off with "his" dog while I hunt.

btw, Monica -- I am a former Long Islander... grew up in Roslyn, later lived in Garden City.  Haven''t been back down for years, though!

Thriftily,
Alexandra

Alexandra, I do feel lucky that Good Buddy is as much of a thrifter as I am.  Now we''re at the point where we usually even finish shopping at the same time when we''re in a thrift store.  The funny thing is that we met right after I had decided that I should probably end the thrift store phase of my life and I had gotten rid of a ton of great stuff I had.  I had finished college and I was moving and I could only take what I could pack in my car and I had no storage where I was going, so I thought, well, I''ve got to get rid of my purple velvet lamp, hot pink velvet couch, lime green velvet chair, my cocktail collection, my tiki collection, etc.  It was so hard to do!  Then I met Good Buddy and he had a house full of cool thrifted stuff, so I just started all over.  It pained me that I couldn''t show off my cool thrifted stuff to him since I had given it away.  When I would describe the great things I used to have, he would tease me and say, "Oh, you mean when you were cool?"
