You can call me AE for short.  Smiley  I'm 25 and from Akron.  At first I started thrifting because it was cheap, and then it was because I liked owning things no one else owned, and for the last couple years it has been for those reasons, and because I hate what big corporations are doing to the world and by buying used I give my money to charities who need the cash, as opposed to evil corporations who make billions of dollars while their products are being manufactured by 3rd world employees for pennies a day.

My best find ever is a bright red fur coat for 20 dollars from the salvation army.  I like all things old--music, clothes, furniture, dishes.  Right now I'm into silverware and kitchen equipment.

My current thrifting goal is to have the biggest box of presents at my sister's baby shower in a few months.  I love buying little socks and shoes best.  Smiley

Welcome!  That baby is going to be blessed.  I also have a grandbaby due in a couple of weeks.  I find so many wonderful baby things that have never been used at yard sales.

Enjoy the site.

Hi AE and welcome! Good luck on the baby shower items! As Hollidais mentioned, it's easy to find new baby things at secondhand prices, and as you commented, it's a way of beating the big corporations at their games!

I used to work at an antique store & the woman who ran the shop struck up a friendship with a seller on Ebay from Akron.  If you go on Ebay you should check out the seller vanitysugarbush (I think the guy is a drag queen, hence the unusual seller name).  His stuff is killer & is from various estate around Akron.  I wish I could find stuff like that!   Some of the auctions actually state a particular estate sale where they were purchased, especially if it is a notable Akron person.  If I were in the Akron area I would check out those auctions!
