Hello and nice to meet everyone Smiley

I just came across this site as I was web surfing,
and I am very glad that I did.  I have only recently
began to garage sale and thrift shop.  At first I went
to the one I discovered for the books.
Now they have all sorts of things.

I must admit to being a bit intimidated by reading all of the
posts about VERA table cloths, and PUCCI purses and so on.
Where do you go to find out about designers before you go shopping
so you know what you are looking for??

I just browse along and pick something up if I like it  Shocked

Hi and welcome to the forum.  Don't feel intimidated.  We all buy what we like, some just happen to like the designer stuff more.  I too didn't know too much about designer merchandise or what it looked like before reading some of the postings here on the forum.  I've since learned from reading the postings, the blogs that are mentioned and looking at stuff on ebay.  Now when I go to the thrift store I may recognize some designer and from there decide if I like it enough to buy it.  I don't usually buy it though...except for the Chanel purse that I found for a whooping $1.00 that I paid for it.

Hey Aia!  Welcome to this funky and fabulous board!  This is a great place to learnlearnlearn. There are many smart and knowledgeable people here and we all share what we know and learn.

My personal recommendation:  If you have net access, Google everything single thing that strikes your passions. Research! Research! and research some more. Ask questions here, we all love sharing what we know.  When you are out thrifting talk with people about the stuff they are selling, talk with people about what they are buying and listen to what they say.  We are very lucky to have the internet; when I started thrifting back in the 70s it was learn as you go along. Also, you can go to the library and read books on whatever interests you.  You will have a lot of fun here.

Ciao,

Hi and welcome!  Grin

Ah, fear not about the designer talk-- there are folks here into a wide variety of things, and we'll be more than happy to learn all about the stuff you love, too! It's such a good education coming here. I look forward to hearing about your finds!

SeSo and Thrift Shop Romantic nailed it on the head, I think. If you like something, research the heck out of it and learn as much as you can ... but fear not if there isn't a "designer" name you can attach to an object. Buy what YOU like, and you can't go wrong.

Thank you for the warm welcome everyone!  Now that I
have a home of my own I am trying to find what I like.
I am not too worried about making mistakes because
anything beats plain white walls with nothing on them. Cheesy

Mark Twain said that? All this time I thought it was my father ... whose accountant sensibilities very much favor that saying.

Hey Scott!  How are y'all?

I learned that quote as belonging to the late, great Mr. Twain. However, if it's your Dad's quote, I gracefully concede my error Smiley Smiley  Your dad's a smart fella! Wink
