Hey there! My name is Lindsey, and I'm a self-professed thriftaholic. I guess that's a good addiction, though.  Wink

I live in the SF Bay Area, CA. My favorite things to shop for are funky pieces of clothing, as well as accessories. But then again, nothing is safe from me!  Cheesy Nearly everything in my apartment is thrifted, from the glasses in my kitchen cabinet to the books on my shelf.

So, I'm glad to be a part of this forum.  Grin

can't wait to get out and thrift!

we lived in the city and east bay for almost 20 years - i don't think i ever bought anything from a thrift store, unless you count SCRAP or east bay depot (both places recycle industrial "waste" products). i always found the prices too high for clothes and such.  there did used to be a great vintage furniture store on mission street that my friend frequented - she had some gorgeous pieces from the 40's - 50's.

glad you are finding worthwhile values in the bay area!

Goodwill Industires of San Francisco has their own seller site on Ebay, they do a nicer job of picture taking, descriptions etc than shopgoodwill I think.  They also have local pick-up so you can save yourself some shipping costs if you ever saw anything you liked.

There must be a lot of little thrifts, church thrifts etc in the bay area I would imagine though, to make up for the fact that Goodwill probably saves the best stuff for Ebay.

Welcome, Lindsey!  I have a friend who finds amazing vintage clothes at the SF Goodwill As-Is, but she has to fight the other regular customers there.  Apparently it's pretty cut-throat among the regulars.

The only SF thrift I've been to was on Valencia somewhere around 17th or 18th Street.  That was years ago and I'm sure it's long gone.

mission and 17th?? that one is still there last time i checked. i think it's a thrift town???

the bay area has great SALVAGE shops - i used to hang out in those more than the thrifts. but then, i was also looking to remodel my house at that point. urban ore in berkeley is incredible. i took the kids there once when they were little - we always called it the pink potty store, because when we went there, my daughter was so enthralled with the pink potty they had (along with all the other colors lined up). she walked up to it and opened the lid (well, of course.. when your 5 you do that automatically) and looked in and found a bunch of pollywogs swimming in the water that had collected! we laughed about that for ages...

Ok, just gotta say: I LOVE the thrift town on 17th and mission.

I found this awesome brown courdory jacket there - it's hard to explain, but it's long, fitted, and had patches on it. it's from some japanese company that i haven't been able to find any information on, but I adore the jacket.

I can probably find three pictures, at least, of me wearing it.
