Hello from Bucks County, PA, which is outside of historic Philadelphia!

I'm so glad I found this site, by shear accident with a Google search on Thrift Stores, and it's a wonderful site, and I have a lot of looking around to do yet here.

I'm seeing a lot that I like, and hope to explore every nook and cranny.

I'm a regular Thrift Store junky at the local spots here in my area, normally hunting down bargains not only for myself, but others in the family, that can use them.  It can be clothing, or anything goes basically.

I just found out at a local Thrift Store today, but you won't let me amend my rating, that JCPenney actually donates brand new furniture to this Thrift store on a regular basis, that has small defects, such as wear on the corners of the pieces, such as light fraying on the arms, big deal <lol>, for someone just starting out who can't afford furniture at all.  What a bargain the prices are as well, they will let you haggle with the pricing at this store, and normally you walk away paying much less than the posted prices on the pieces.  It pays to go in on a regular basis, and get to know the people who work there.

Since I have time on my hands, I'm a regular there <grin>.

Hope to come here often enough to keep up with the happenings, and get to know this site well.

I think the Owner's did a great job with the site, and it's pleasant on the eye balls, and honestly that's important to people, when they first encounter a web site.  I've seen many that turn me off, never to return again, and this one is easy on the eyes *thumbs up*.

Welcome, Picca! I get out to the northern end of your territory every so often for the flea markets, but I've done some of the thrift scene on 309 near Quakertown. Always a must to visit Sally and Goody before a trip to Q-Mart.

'fact, I'm ready for a trip to Q-Mart real soon, and maybe Zern's - I still get my hair cut there ($8), and I'm just about due. There's a Goody not far from there (in Pottstown), and a Cash Converters in the same strip mall that has some surprises, and sometimes upstages the Goodwill.

Glad you found us!

Well, I'm in the Lower end of the County, getting up to Quakertown though isn't that far, but it's a day trip to do so.  We have enough down this way, plus on the other side of the river in Jersey to keep us busy here  Grin

Thanks for the nice welcome  Smiley

Hi Picca,

Welcome, I am very familiar with Bucks County.  Great area for flea and antique markets along with the portions of Jersey along the Delaware River.  Haven't explored thrift stores in the area, but probably similar.

Picca,

As basically a Philly son (both parents and entire extended family are Philadelphians) what's your favorite Pat's or Geno's?

Thanks for the compliments!

Wid!

We liked Geno's best. They were nicer than the Pat's guys too.

Greeting Picca and welcome aboard! Although from the Midwest and living there currently, we lived on the lower Main Line for seven years. Used  to joke that we lived in the only middle-class street in Haverford.  Cheesy

Spent many enjoyable weekends exploring the Bucks County towns along the Delaware River - such pretty scenery, 18th C homes, vestiges of an old canal, etc. Also enjoyed visits to Fonthill and the Moravian Tile Works -  must-sees.

Such a great area; I still miss it and we moved away ten years ago!

As far as eats, I still miss Reading Terminal Market - what a fun place. You could get just about anything to eat there, and I never saw an unhappy customer there - whether it be construction workers, shoppers from the suburbs like me, business people in expensive attire - everyone seemed to have a good time. Philadelphians are sometimes known for their "attytude", but I never saw it there!

Wid or widout is the question at hand  Undecided

I used to work throughout SE PA (Philla, Bucks, Pretty much all the way west to State College).

My favorite steaks in PA were at a place in Newtown - Might on the main street - I can't  remember the name of the place, but I think it was something like Losano's or something that began with an "L."  This is years ago (last century as a matter of fact) so the place might not still be there.  My favorite place in NJ for a steak was at a pizzeria over in Barnegat (again, the name of the place escapes me) but it was on route 9 in the A&P shopping center.  The place in Barnegat made the BEST Cheese Steaks, and they weren't even in Philadelphia.  The place where I had my first cheese steak was when I visited a friend in Warminster during college, and we got steaks at a local place in Warminster.

HOWEVER - my favorite food aspect of Philadelphia (which, by the way is a PHENOMENAL food city) are the chocolate shakes at Nifty Fifty's.  I think there was a small one on 10th Street or somewhere down there that made them best, although I ate at all three (at the time) - Grant, one on the way down to Chester, and the one mentioned above.  I later visited the new one on Street Road, which was bigger, and lacked the charm of the others - the food was still excellent, though.

See you next time
bye for now.
