Hi.
My name is Paul, and I'm a thrift shop addict.

[Hi, Paul] <-- that's you guys welcoming me to the meeting

I shop for audio gear (I'm particular, but when you find something great, it's very thrilling), records, tapes (High quality blanks and obscure material), Nancy Drew Books for my daughter (only need 31-33 to have the entire series), higher quality bikes, and videos.

I live in the Phoenix, AZ area, and thrift shops are popping up like weeds (my guess is that it's due to the population growth).

I'll stop into thrift stores anywhere my travels take me.  I'm definitely addicted, for the simple reason is that you never know what you'll find.

I can't resist a good deal.  I also love to go to garage sales, and browse craigslist (I don't know if this is cheating, but I'm putting it out there anyway, because I did find an incredible buy on there)
My favorite type of furniture is danish style.
I have some set routes that allow me to hit many of my favorite stores.

I've rated and reviewed many of the stores that I frequent in my area, in order to help any other thrifters who might look for local information.

Let the fun begin.

That's all for now.

Thanks.

Welcome Stud!

I lived at University and McKlintock in Tempe for 5 years, yes you have some of the BEST thrifting around. I'm sure you take FULL advantage of it too. I did.
Speaking of neeto audio, Zed Simon, who frequently posts here, Troy McClure and myself (Good Buddy) LOVE cool old audio. I bought my wife a brand new Stanton turntable for Christmas the year before last , we use it often. I tried to thrift one and looked for a turntable for 6 months. The moment I caved and bought new, I saw 3 within weeks at thrifts and dozens since.
I just got these book, record, filmstrip sets from 1961, I'll post about them in another forum....

Hi Paul!

Welcome to the thrift Shopper!  It's a lot of fun here.  My name is Cassandra, I know nothing about audio stuff (the extent of my knowledge is that iPods require earbuds not only in your ear but plugged into the iPod for you to be able to hear the music).  Hope to see you around!

Hey there! Welcome!

Your comment on finding your daughter the Nancy Drews tells me some things really are timeless. Many, many moons ago, <I> was the little girl looking for Nancy Drews with my dad. And from a kid-perspective, finding the books you're looking for-- IN BULK-- and for hardly any money... well, it's a BIG deal. I'll always think fondly of my dad enabling my Nancy Drew habit.

I hope your daughter is able to finish her collection!

Yard sales, craigslist, thrifts, and especially flea markets are the places I can't get enough of. I've yet to see a real Pennsylvania-style flea market out here on the Island (Attia's? Feh!), and it totally bums me out. Thrifts are not the same here, but I find some good stuff on my circuits. And I make excuses to get back to PA whenever I can.

Some time, you, Good Buddy, Troy McClue and I should have a nice chat about the gear we've found and post our thrift systems (I'm listening to mine right now).

Good to have you here.
