The best thrift store jewelry buy I got was about two years ago.  I was going through a box of jewelry at one of the local thrifts.  Everything was $.50.   I picked out a bunch of stuff and when I got home I noticed that I had one earring and one pin that were marked 18K gold (they were beautiful, delicate orchids with a pearl in the middle).  A couple of days later I went back and I found that matching earring.   I listed them on eBay and got $120 between the earrings and the pin.   Not bad for $1.00.
