The best thrift store jewelry buy I got was about two years ago.  I was going through a box of jewelry at one of the local thrifts.  Everything was $.50.   I picked out a bunch of stuff and when I got home I noticed that I had one earring and one pin that were marked 18K gold (they were beautiful, delicate orchids with a pearl in the middle).  A couple of days later I went back and I found that matching earring.   I listed them on eBay and got $120 between the earrings and the pin.   Not bad for $1.00.

My best jewelry find was a carved Bakelite bracelet at Value Village for $2.
I sold it for $65.

I carried it around a bit...this store lets you do that so I had ample time to 'sniff' it!!

There's a polish called Simichrome polish that also turns yellow when rubbed on Bakelite.

I've had oodles of terrific thrift finds over the years.  Some of the ones I remember most fondly:

$3 for a Jim Thompson Thai Silk muumuu -- sold it for $375.

$6 for a long Pucci dress; next to it on the rack was a long vintage Diane von Furstenberg dress for $4.  Got somewhere around $400 for them.

50 cents for a Zandra Rhodes dress, sold for $125.

Good jewelry is tough to find around here, but in the past few months I've found Stephen Dweck earrings for a dollar, and a Miriam Haskell baroque pearl necklace for $2.

I've never found any clothing that has been from a really large name designer brand.  I have seen a few designer purses but I've never purchased them, because knowing my luck they would be fake.

I have found so many fun things at past yard sales/thrift store outings so I always look forward to this time of year.  Next weekend is supossed to be sunny & 80 degrees!  There usually isn't much for sales on Easter weekend but the weather is never this nice so early so who knows.  The thrifts were really dead for a while, but I have found a few things lately.  Today I got a vintage red plaid tin litho picnic basket for 99 cents, a vintage French language book for paper crafting for 50 cents and a set of 6 vintage Rogers, Lunt & Bowlen silver fruit knives still in the box for $1.25.  Also a bag of various tupperware lids in good condition for 99 cents.  Most of my tupperware is missing lids so that was a good find.

Last week I got a really pretty patchwork quilt for $7.50 and a vintage cross-stitch sampler for $1.99.  Also this vintage double-breasted jacket for $8.00.
