Hey All You Jewelry Lovers Out There:

Today was WACKY WEDNESDAY at the local SA. Practically everything in the store was 1/2 price--including jewelry.  I went patiently digging through the stuff, and came up with this piece:

Check out the close-up of the detail work:

My guess is that is it brass or copper with goldplate, as I could not find any markings and it smells that way. It looks gilded and has some weight to it.  This piece is tiny--maybe 15.5 inches long, and strikes me as a Deco piece, "Egyptian Revival".

What do you all think?  I was really taken by it.  O, and did I mention it was ony 2.50? Smiley  My favorite part!  I thrifted all day and this is the first piece I found and the only item I purchased because, it was perfect and nothing else satisfies like perfection.  Let me know what y'all think, as I am not very knowledgable about jewelry.

Ciao,
SeSo

It does definitely have an Egyptian feel to it., and I can see that the clean lines might seem deco-- and I can certainly see why you bought it. You got a good deal.

The way the chain is done-- rather thick circles-- makes me think it might be a 60s piece. I suspect if it were from the 20s or 30s, the chain would be made of different stuff, based on jewelry I have. Either a little smaller/finer, or more likely it would have largely consisted of bigger pieces of metal to support the droplets, then with finer chain toward the clasp.

Just my guessing, of course. Either way, it would look great on a black turtleneck sweater.

It does have great detailing on it.  Nice!  I have no idea when it was made, so I can't help you there.

Congrats on your great find!  It is always neat to find the "perfect" item.

Well, I would cast my vote for Art Noveau rather than Deco -- it's not geometric, and that's the one characteristic I always associate with Deco vs. Noveau.

But this piece is a swell find -- either on it's own, or to even deconstruct to make indvidual pendants!

Thriftily,
Alexandra

I LOVE it SeSo.I think it is maybe from the 30's to somewhere in the early 60's.But you don't every find a nice piece of jewelry made with a chain as thick as that piece. It is rare.I also think of it as art deco.I was just about to ask if the piece was heavy, but you had already said it was.Very nice SeSo. Cool

That would look great with a belly dancing costume! Cheesy  Nice find.  I agree that it looks 60's because of those rings.  I was out in Kissimmee today trying my darndest to thrift.  The thrift store we loved out there closed.  There's still a Goodwill and Salvation Army, but the only other one I could think of was too far for me to drive.  I went to Goodwill and SA, but found absolutely nothing except for two books.

Hey, Vintage Purse Lover, are you in Kissimmee?  Good Buddy said he thought you were out there.  Where are all the thrift stores?  Help!

Thanks VPL!  I thought I was missing something, but there just really isn't much out there in Kissimmee I guess.

Okay, back to our regularly scheduled program....

So where are you going to wear this necklace, SeSo?  Formal or casual occasions?  I like the black turtleneck idea.  That always shows jewelry off nicely.

Itt's only 15.5 inches long from end to end,  Smiley, which makes putting anything underneath it (except my neck) pretty much of a tight squeeze, alas. Though, I do agree with you about the black turtleneck... very hip. I was thinking more along the lines of funky gauzy stuff, you know, Cookie, that "Moroccan" look. Hoop earrings and bangles and kohl, lots of Cinnabar by Estee Lauder,  Grin Grin Grin
