I've made a handful of pillowcase skirts from vintage pillowcases I've found at thriftstores.  Basically you cut the the "top" of the pillowcase off and create a drawstring waist there.  You can find instructions on the internet on making these if you need help (instructions vary some), but it's really easy.  I don't sew very much at all and I found it very easy.

I've kept a few and I've also sold a few on eBay quite some time back.

Here's an example of one of them I did.

Thanks.  The first ones I ever saw were in a boutique that sold second hand clothes and other things.  But they also these skirts made from pillowcases that a girl was selling there on consignment.  Her's were done mostly in pillowcases from the seventies that had large, bold prints on them.  And I liked the more feminine look personally, so when I stumbled across instructions online I made mine out of pillowcases with pretty roses on them.  The skirts are great 'cause they can fit so many different styles just based on the pillowcases used.  I saw a very cute Rainbow Brite one once that someone had made.

This is a great idea and I'm sure that I will be making some of these shortly.  I love to sew and I've been meaning to make myself some more skirts!  Thanks for the idea!!

Why just use pillowcases?  Find some neat material and buy enough for your wasit measurement.  A seam down the side, a hem at the bottom and a casing at the top for a drawstring or elastic!   Cheesy

Jaie, this is definately a good idea for those who want that pillowcase skirt look but maybe haven't found a pillowcase in the style they want.  It's also great for those who aren't as skinny as a pillowcase (lol) as most pillowcases are about the same size and run on a "small size."  It only takes a little bit more work because the side and hem aren't sewn already for you.  I've also thought of using the top or bottom of a vintage sheet and then the hem is sewn already for you, so all you need to do is sew up the side and the casing.

That's really a pretty skirt.  For some reason when I first joined I couldn't see a picture.  I'll have to look a little more at the pillow cases next time.

I've thought about this but haven't tried it yet though.  If you want a mini skirt, why not use a valance from a curtain set?  Has a ready made casing for a drawstring or elastic.  And also lots of nice ruffles which I adore!
