If there is one thing that I just don''t have an appetite for, it''s holiday sweaters.  But... I hate to be a total scrooge.  So, I decided I would make a holiday sweater from a thrifted one.  OK, so it didn''t really look like a typical holiday sweater because there were no trees or snowmen on it... but it was minimally "holiday."

I took a pale blue/grey lambswool/mohair blend, which I had to darn a bit to fix a few holes, then I picked up some crystal beads at Joanne''s (because they were on sale), and sewed them on in a cluster right at the center of the neck band.

That is my christmas sweater -- very understated, and very very cheap.  I think it came in at under three bucks, including the crystals.  I wore it to a lunch with a bunch of friends -- all the ladies were wearing holiday sweaters, so I didn''t feel like a total scrooge because I had that little bit of holiday sparkle!

Has anyone else made a holiday sweater as a thrift project?

Thriftily,
Alexandra
