winter must be getting to me when I am looking at these kinds of projects.

This bra purse is made with a lightweight Lycra bra, a padded bra would provide  more stability, obviously the bigger the bra cup the bigger the purse.

Start by removing the straps from the cups.

You can keep the cups together with most bras, but it will depend on the type you are using. If you separate the cups you will  glue them back together along the wire line. Glue the cups together to form the pursepouch.
Glue the straps back on to form the handles, these can be short or long depending on your bag style. Use the actual bra straps to keep the purse "Bra Looking" but you could swap for a cord or ribbon. Just attach to the top of the bra where the straps normally sit.
If you are use a Strapless bra then  glue  handles into the inside edge of the cup.
Embellish the handbag by gluing on trims, ribbons and sequins to your desired style.  You can add a little or a lot.

This is from a craft site saying it would be good for breast cancer awareness.  I will  make one because I believe in the cause, but should I admit this? I do not own a bra so will have to thrift one.

Also gives me incentive to post a picture.

I know a couple of women who have made these and they end up being surprisingly cute.

No bra?  You are one freewheelin' lady!  That reminds me of the Seinfeld episode with Elaine's friendSue Ellen that doesn't wear a bra.  She gives her one as a gift, I guess she should have made it into a purse.

I could see these bags having potential for being cute, depending on the bra.  Please do post a pic if you make one.

I got an altered art book out from the library with a great idea using something you can easily find at a thrift.  I will try to post some pics tomorrow if I have time.

I only wear a bra if I'm all dressed up and the look demands it.  And if I made a purse out of one of my bras it would look more like an envelope!  Embarrassed

I've never worn a bra and don't intend to. I would however be interested in seeing some pics of these so called "Bra Purses"... Wink

Bra purses are very hot with the REd Hat Ladies.  Apparently a must have accessory.  TRy here for a peek at one.

Thanx for the pic! It was hard to conjure up a "metal" Image of what one would look like, and actually you wouldnt even know its a bra if someone didnt tell you, thats what I was afraid of, who wants to carry lingerie around? And for you-all who said you didnt wear a bra, lucky you!!! I wish I could do that , I live in one because although I am petite and small that is the biggest thing on my body, o.k. tmi! lol! Thanx for the chuckle! Wink

After two kids a bra is a must have for me.  Not so in college.  Miss those days, especially in hot sticky weather.

Thanks for the link. Did anyone else look for other "bra" links off that site? I thought the Booze Bra was interesting. But I don't drink either, so the added slosh just for extra inches is not enough of an incentive.

I did check the local thrift for bras and Mom never taught me they can be purchased for under a dollar!

It looks like the menfolk have been avoiding this post - or at least keeping their comments to themselves. I knew that there were some smart fellas hanging out on this board!!! Grin

An interesting idea, but bras are supposed to be filled with things more exciting than pictures of grandchildren and Chap-Stik.....
