I often take advantage fo finding quality brands, even if they're a bit out of style. I will alter them to improve them. I found a pair of pants, for example, with legs that were wider than my taste and so I shortened them up to some nice bermuda shorts. Any creative alteration ideas out there?

This isn't exactly an alteration, but what I like to do is find a long skirt in a pretty print or lightweight fabric with an elastic waist, then I wear it as a strapless dress by pulling it up above my bustline and you can add a cool looking belt to it. Great in the summer!

i buy 100% wool sweaters and felt them for various reasons.. i think that's beyond alteration and into crafting! i just made a couple of hats the other day.

my daughter alters almost everything she gets. she makes everything more to her body type (long and lean). sometimes she cuts things up, but not too often. more often she adds to rather than takes away.

I got a great men's linen shirt last summer and cut off the pocket and changed the hemline to create a more feminine look. it was such a beautiful color - i really wanted it but i didn't like the original cut.

I do the felted wool sweater thing, too, GI! Have made pincushions (check out the gallery, I posted some there), hats, stuffed toys, and purses out of them.

The latest alteration thingie I did was to a really gorgeous men's shirt; the fabric was a black and white and gray geometric jacquard and from a very exclusive local men's shop. I sewed four fisheye darts into the back and two on each front to make it fit my curves. I wear it open over a tank or turtleneck and have gotten big compliments on it!  Grin
