Bob and his wife are going through some old clothes when Emily says..
"Bob, I''m going to donate these narrow ties to the Goodwill, I hope you don''t mind."
Then bob replies..
"I hope they don''t mind."

That bit obviously reflects the fact that wider ties were coming more into fashion. The widest ties on TV being on Barney Miller and Hawaii 5O.
