Okay,  I think this is a safe environment to share this little secret.  My husand usually just shakes his head and says that he married a crazy woman when I tell him about it.  Here goes...

I have this dream every so often where I am at this amazing garage sale.  There are rows and rows of amazing furniture lined up in a huge grassy lot.  There are Eames Lounge Chairs and Noguchi coffee tables.  Tons of stuff I don't recognize, but love.  Every sort of amazing furniture find I would ever want. THe best part is that everything is impossibly cheap, and no one is there but me.  I never get to the actual buying part of the dream.  I'm just looking around.

This is the best dream.

So......now you know I'm a wierdo......

I often have a dream where I am at a estate sale/ thrift store/ etc and there is this amazing stuff... it is almost always cheap as well, but sometimes I have to pay for it.  Most of the neat things are things I have never before seen in real life, so I have no idea where it's coming from!  The latest one was at a thrift store and I found the motherload of Streckenbach prints.  Ones I had never seen before, but they were definately Streckenbach.

Those dreams are so depressing!   Tongue

I dream I'm in the series Barney Miller. But there's a thrift store in the dream too, really....

Many years ago I dreamed I was in the five & ten cent store to end all five & ten cent stores.  It had creaky oak floors, a bargain basement, old-fashioned hanging light fixtures, elderly salesladies in dull-blue smocks, a soda fountain/lunch counter, and everything I ever wanted to buy in my entire life: dishes, sewing notions, crafts, toys, EVERYTHING.  It was similar to the Woolworth and McCrory-McLellan-Green stores of my childhood, only better.  I've been searching for that store for decades now.  If anybody knows where it is, please let me know.  I'll move there.

I've had very similar dreams with very similar stuff! Mine takes place in a thrift store, though, and everything appears to be new-old stock.

Those are fun dreams to have!

I've had the NOS dream before too!  Everything still factory sealed and priced at $1.

I've had dreams like that, too - The most vivid one involved a whole bunch of 1960's and 1970's muscle bikes.  All the obscure ones as well as the archetypes (Krates, Screamers, Apollos, Eliminators, etc.).  In this dream, they were simply there for the taking; there was no store or sale involved.  I may have had a dream with audio equipment, but I just don't remember.

Barney Miller info that was not looked up and is from memory only (which only goes to show how sick this man's mind is):  Jack Soo played Nick Yemana.  Abe Vigoda played Fish (who got his own show later).  Gregory Sierra played Channo.  The spelling is probably off.  Hal Linden was the title character.  Max Gail played Wojo, which was short for Wojohowitz.

Freakin' sick.

That is all.

That's exactly the Woolworth's I grew up with in downtown San Francisco.  I loved that store and never had enough money for everything I wanted.  I always had to decide between the candy, the jewelry, and the cosmetics.

We have a store near here called Vidler's -- and it's a 5 and 10.  It's a local institution and even a destination for tourists.  Then there's the hardware store in Old Forge, NY.  Both sound like the store you describe!

As for the Barney Miller tivia... Paul, what was Fish's wife name and who played her???

Thriftily,
Alexandra
