Why No "New This Week" Sections?

I know many TSs are stretched for space, but why don't any (in my experience) have a "new this week" section that would keep regular customers returning? I'd shop more if I didn't need to go through everything in order to see if anything new is of interest. And as I already know what's been on the selves for a while, I'm not going to make impulse buys while wading through the entire stock. What do others think? PS, happy holidays to all!

Probably because they'd look at that rack and leave and not look around.

Most of the thrifts in my area -- at least the worthwhile ones -- put out literally hundreds of items a day, so they're probably too busy getting merch out onto the floor to point out the new arrivals.

I too don't want to have to rummage through stuff I've seen two days before in order to get to what I haven't seen, but I don't think my favorite thrifts are going to accommodate me.

Yes, I did think of the added work that unsold items in a New This Week section would need to be re-stocked in the store's regular sections to make way for the latest new items. Maybe a marketing student could do a survey on whether that extra work would be more than offset by store's regular customers coming in more frequently as a result. I doubt there's much "impulse" buying generated by needing to look thru the entire store every time one visits it, cuz the regular shopper already knows what's in stock.

I would say that most thrifts get far too many donations to have a new this week area.  I like when thrifts mark stuff down that's been there for more than 2 weeks, keeps the merchandise fresher.

One of my clients is a St Vincent de Paul and they have a special rack for "new" items to the store. I had first heard that from them and I agree that it's a phenomenal idea. That's the first place I would go every time I shopped that store.

Most of the stores in my area do a color tag thing where a different color each week goes on sale, so at least in the showcase area you can see what the newest things are, if you pay attention to the cycle of colors.  Right after a color has been 75% off you can also see a lot of that color in the hanging racks, too, as they've put out new things.
