Anyone dressing up for Halloween this year in a thrifted costume?  I'd love to go as Good Buddy, but I don't think I'd ever find a wig that would do him justice.  He's got such great hair.  We've talked in the past about dressing up as Dog The Bounty Hunter and his wife Beth, but I don't think we'd ever find those leather straps things in a thrift store.  Our other idea was to go Hank and Peggy Hill, and those costumes would be really easy to thrift, except GB is insisting on a perfect replica of Peggy Hill's glasses, and we've had a hard time finding the exact right ones he wants.  Anyone having a party with thrifted decorations?  What are y'all's plans?

Didn't mean to make it sound like GB will be wearing the Peggy Hill glasses!

Personally I think Peggy Hill is a transexual because she has big man hands and big man feet...  Wink  As far as I'm concerned a guy is a perfect fit to play her.

A couple Halloween's ago, we dressed as Margaret "Hot Cookie" Houlihan and Benjamin Franklin "Good Buddy" Pierce. We went downtown to a bar I used to work at and had a drink, then we went to Jeff's, our neighbor's house for a little while.

Most of the outfits are thrifted, but we did go to an Army Surplus Store and get real dog tags made up that had the official info of each character.

At the very least I'll probably answer the door in costume and shock the locals--  I'd thrifted a while back this horrifyingly frou-frou pink gown for $2 which I think I'll use for Glinda the Good Witch. I just need to make a crown and a wand.

I always tiarras on the shelves by what I call "The boulevard of broken dreams" (The aisle where the wedding dresses are)  Think about it just about the only reason a wedding dress is donated would be because of a divorce.  People generally keep their dress, and that of their grandmother, etc.  Just try to watch out and not be mistaken for a princess.

When  I worked at the hospital we dressed up on Halloween.  One year I dressed as a woman still in nightgown and housecoat.  Never had a name for the character but some people called me Maxine.  I really try not to be grumpy but I can get pretty sarcastic and grumpy at times.  Quite a few people thought I was a patient walking around the building.  It was a lot of fun that's for sure.  My costume was totally thrifted except for the curlers in my hair I bought those new.

Oh my gosh, Chris-- too funny! Maxine. I love it! (Isn't Maxine that cartoon character who's on either Hallmark or Carlton cards?)

And, Jay, I'm going to try to see about making a big pink crown rather than go the tiara route, so I should be fairly in the clear from general princess confusion. :-) There are really some amazing formalwear in general that's coming into the thrifts.

When you can get an old prom dress for $4, how cool is that?

Yes, Maxine is a cartoon character from Hallmark I think.  She is one sarcastic broad!  I have a t-shirt that I picked up at a thrift store with her on it.  It says "There's No Place Like Home...So Go There!"

To be specific, she is featured on "Shoebox Greetings" cards which is a division of Hallmark.

Does anyone else get crabby when Halloween comes around, with respect to thrifting?  I must be a giant geek, but I get all annoyed when all the costumes and plastic pumpkins start flooding my favorite stores and the merchandise shifts around and it's generally a giant mess.
