I'm relatively new here, so I don't know if this has come up on any previous posts, but I recently came across a website:

www.wishbookweb.com

The guy running the site has donwloaded entire Christmas catalogues from the usual suspects like Sears and Penneys as well as from a few other chains. Years range from 1940-1986 - not every single year, but some from each decade.

Time-consuming, of course, to download and to browse, but still a fun way to learn about appliances, clothing, dishes, etc. or just to see what the "must-haves" were over the years!

I don't know whether to love you or hate you for this link. I have spent the last 2 hours looking at these catalogs!! I enjoy looking at every single page. It's fascinating to me and educational - I'm learning how to better date things that I might find while thrifting.

Thanks for the link, goodaim, seriously.

It's funny how all the people look sooooo happy in these catalogs. In today's advertising, people look hateful and unhappy most of the time.

Yes awesome site!  Great to look at when you're bored & an education too.  I love the 1958 Sears catalog with the white Christmas tree & ornaments.  I got a white Christmas tree during after-Christmas clearance sales (5 bucks), so I am going for that look next year!
