Sometimes I like to rag on the Island for not having a lot of things most other places have...but it may be changing. We just got our first Denny's last month, and I just found out today that there's a Savers opening up a couple miles away in June! They have banners outside about a hiring fair this weekend, and an opening the last weekend of June.

Not ever seeing one, much less even being in one before, is there anything to expect that's different from Goody and Sally?

I'm pumped for this!

Like most of the thrift chains I think Savers can vary quite a bit from store to store.  I have heard great things about a few Savers such as Springfield MA and Providence, RI, then I hear other people say their Savers are no good.  Keep your fingers crossed!

I like savers here in Arizona. They put to high on dvd's and other better stuff. We do see some stuff to  sell that they have missed. We boy little toys for our daughters though..I wish they had an open restroom instead of asking someone to open it.. The stuff is used, if someone steals it no loss for the store. The store didn't buy it..I am sure not that many people would steal .I am sure ppl do steal clothes, but they can do that in the dressing rm.. They are cleaner then the GW;s though and smells better  lol

I don't shop at Savers - but that's just me.

1) They don't have a good return policy.  You get store credit that has to be used RIGHT THEN AND THERE.  I mean, honestly.  Do they think I'm going to drop $50.00 on a vintage receiver, find out it doesn't work, try to return it and have to use $50.00 worth of store credit right then and there?  Goodwill (their main competitor in AZ) will give you a debit card with the return value on it that is good until you spend it.  There may be a time limit on it, but I've never had credit that long to actually know.

2) They say that their electronics are "tested" but I happen to know that it's complete B.S.  They don't have an electrical testing section, so you have to hunt around the perimeter of the store looking for an outlet.  Then they question you (nicely, but still) about why you're testing it when they have already "tested" it.  I tell them it's because I don't use quotes around the word when I test it.  (In all honesty, their "test" procedures include:  Plug it in - turn it on.  If it turns on, send it out to the floor.  THAT, my friends is not testing it, it's "testing" it).

3) They collect sales tax.  In Phoenix, it's 9.1% - that's a hefty premium to put on a supposed "charity thrift."  I have never gotten a straight answer as to why they have to collect taxes while Goodwill doesn't.

4) Their coupon and discount scheme stinks.  Their discounts usually apply to cheap crap for which I am not looking (less than $5.00) and you get the discount off the 2nd item you buy (if you buy item one at a $10 or more - regular price - you get 50% off the 2nd item, provided the regular price is $5.00 or less).  Complicated and not beneficial for me and the way I shop.

5) Their vinyl albums are priced at $1.99, whereas Goodwill has their LPs priced at $.99.  I can go to Revolver Records in downtown Phoenix and spend $1.99 on some good jazz sides WITHOUT having to sift through endless Barbara Streisand and Mitch Miller albums.

I feel like I'm beating a dead horse at this point.  Savers is not for me.

OMG, I remember "Sing along with Mitch"  I think my parents must have had every album of his.  I especially hated trying to sing along with the Christmas album as my parents made us attempt to do in the 70's.

Saver's in Mesa and Gilbert are getting higher on their prices. One time we almost bought a vdv set that was behind the counter and it was missing a dvd in the set. We told them and just put it back under the counter. I am sure they hope the next person doesn't look at it and buy it.. grrrr That has happened in GW too..We will find dvd's for the kids, but not much to sell.

I looooooooooooove Savers but it depends on what you like to buy of course.

Mine here just opened up a new one and it is very clean and very organized. All items are hung (scarves, purses, belts) and everything has its own price. The shelves are all labeled (for now right? lol)

Pricing can be high but I mostly buy to resell. I like their discounts. For ours, you get 20% off coupon when you donate something. They have stamp cards that get you 30% off and you get to shop sales early on your birthday.

So I guess they may vary by location.
