So I went to the Salvation Army yesterday to do my usual thrift shopping. My salvation army has a pretty big book section, which of course I looked through. Found an assortment of books, bought them and took them home.

I was going over my purchases and realized that I had bought a book that isn't even in bookstores yet. An advanced reading copy!! The book is called "The Film Club: A Memoir" by David Gilmour...it's going to be in bookstores on May 6th,2008 in hardcover (mine's in paperback). So it's also a first edition.  Cheesy

Not sure why, but this made me very delighted. I almost always see multiple copies of Bridget Jone's Diary and things like that, so you really have to look to find the good books.

Maybe in 100 years it will be worth something.....? I only paid a dollar.

Have any of you come across unexpected surprises in thrift stores?

I've found several neat things inside books. From very old postcards and recipes to photo's and even some really cool orange juice pamphlets from the 1930's.

I think with thriftshopping you can pretty much expect the unexpected.  The only time I ever found anything in something else is when I was looking at a backpack for my daughter and inside I discovered a vintage 80's rainbow brite doll.  I wanted the backpack so I bought it with doll inside.  The doll turned out to be a rarer model & worth some money so it ended up being a profitable deal!

However I am pretty much "surprised" on a weekly basis upon finding unusual little treasures that are so unpredictable!

I am in Los Angeles.

In one thrift store, I found a season one presskit for StarTrek Next Generation.

Sold it on eBay for quite a bit of profit. Cheesy

Used to see a lot of those VHS screeners.  Freebie copies of movies given to people in the industry so they can vote for industry awards like the Oscars.  Now, because of piracy & the internet downloads, people are a lot more careful with screeners ( & the industry gives out a lot less). Shocked
