Splashs I agree with you! So often I see these morning programs that outfit someone for under $100 and Iam like "comeon" I could do that for like $10 and still look great and have everything including shoes. You should see the things I get at the Catholic thrift, boutique stuff for cheap. It does help though that Iam easy to fit , being short and of fair weight so I luck out every time. That is another reason that I need to stay out of these places for days at a time, I just about can wear anything from juniors to womens etc. so Iam always bringing home the latest clothes and sandals and pocketbooks, but alas it dosent all go to waste, for I give things to my sissies and to charity alot so.... I thrift khaki's for work pants, but find jeans are never a bargain. I garage sale them for $.25 - $1.  I  very rarely find a shirt to thrift for me. I do find my son tons of tee's. He is on a cartoon character kick and  although he is 15 he wears youth large.  The goofier the better.  I have found him 3 gravedigger shirts in the last 4 months. Also got him pwer rangers, ninja turtles, buzz lightyear and probably  10 more I can't remember. Very emo to wear  such non cool clothes.  I am on a hunt for small soldiers now.

Everything that I'm wearing today came from thrift stores.  We have a thrift store 14 miles from us that sells their clothes for a quarter and it is nice stuff, believe me!  I have on sage colored velvet pants a rust orange colored long sleeve t-shirt and a hoodie that is orange colored with little green leaves on it.  I am toasty warm in my 75 cent outfit!!!!  I have been thrifting clothes for me and my family since 1974.  Most of the things I buy now, are just for myself.

A quarter!  You are so lucky.  I went to a few yard sales this summer that has $1 per bag for clothes, but no thrifts around here are that cheap.  Salvation army 1/2 price stuff is OK.  That's why I don't comb through the clothes racks that often.  I would for a quarter though.  One of the local thrifts has all books for a quarter, I usually see the same ones everytime I go in so I think the new ones go quick.  I have picked up a few good ones though.

This store that I described is an independent mission's shop.  All the ladies that work there are volunteers from local churches. All of the money goes to missionaries. They are only open on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday until noon.  They also distribute free food once a month for those who qualify.  People in this area just call it "The Quarter Store", because just about everything there is a quarter or less.  Books are a dime, toys are a dime, puzzles and magazines are free.  I bought a whole tub of Christmas decorations there this year and they just said, "Is $2 too much?"  This place is a dream come true for thrifters.  When I go to all of the other thrifts around here, I sometimes cringe at the prices, because I'm spoiled with the quarter store!! Shocked

I've never found a better thrift store yet for prices.  Some folk may think that they only have junk, but as it's the only thrift store in that town of 4,000, they get just as nice donations as any place else.  I failed to mention that men's suits are $1.00 (gasp!) and winter coats are $1-$2.  I can't complain about that though.  I can walk out of that place with huge black garbage bags full of things, plus some boxes crammed full and spend less than $10.  I've NEVER spent over $14.00 there at once and I literally fill my trunk a part of my back seat.  If anyone is ever in the Central Illinois, I'll be happy to give you directions!!  If this place is not in the forum list, I'll get the exact name and address for someone to include it.

I almost always have something thrifted on... I also look for brand and designer names and items that I know a local resale shop will want and trade for store credit. This has proved to be a valuable way to get really good designer jeans, shirts, shoes, etc... that the college kids here wear like one semester and then need beer money. I have a pair of ($300 retail) Gucci jeans that I used my store credit to get ($35).

right now the pajama pants I am wearing are from GW.  Everything i wore to work today was thrifted.  (exept the undergarments of course).

Mostly all of my clothes and jewelry is either from thrift, or GW or a consignment/resale shop.  I don;t think i own a purse that i have actually bought at a "real Store"

The only time i shop from the mall is when i really want to treat my self.  Like for my birthday.....my skinny jeans were thrifted but i treated my self to a cute top from the mall for like 10.00 and some new shoes from ross for like 9.99.

Great thread!  I'm totally sporting some 'thriftwear' today.  Clark hiking boots, Timberland cargo pants, blue plaid Lands' End oxford, and an Abercrombe leather jacket.  I think I wear mostly thrifted stuff almost everyday...except for my boxers and socks =)

I haven't been seeing much for clothing at the Sal Army lately, mostly really used/worn looking stuff.  I only buy new looking stuff or things with the tag still on.  I heard an employee telling someone today that clothing donations are down.  I have been getting some good clearance stuff at Target, Kohl's etc.

The food bank thrift tends to have nicer quality clothing, they won't put out worn or stained things.  Their selection tends to be somewhat frumpy though as I think many of their donations come from older people.  I have bought several nice scarves there lately though, one pink wool cableknit Gap scarf, one lavender fringed houndstooth cashmink scarf with tags still attached and a cute old navy polar fleece scarf.  All of their scarves, hats, mittens & accessories are a buck which is the way it should be.

Like some of the other posters, everything but undies and socks.  I went from completely turning my nose up at secondhand clothes in the mid-90s to having 95% of what's in my closet be from thrift stores, even my shoes.

I've always tried to dress well, but I get far more compliments on my clothes now than I did when everything came from department and specialty stores.

Most of my outfits cost no more than $20 total -- I'm not talking individual pieces, I'm talking entire outfits.  And sometimes they're as little as $5 total, and that's including shoes!

My entire wardrobe, jewelry, shoes, everything but undies - comes from thrift stores. I've been this way since 1977 when my friend in high school invited me to shop with her. Also 99% of my household goods are second-hand.

Nothing thrifted today. I only wear thrifted shirts & 59-Fifty caps.

Brand new, never worn Emerica shirt & some dirty never washed in 6 months DC jeans. Some socks & a pair of Joe Boxers.

I do not think there is anything wrong with thrifted socks. A good washing in hot water,  you can tell if they have been worn to excess. Socks show wear.
I am wearing thrifted lounge pants  featuring Eeyore. Something an adult woman would look foolish buying new.

and this time of year I am always wearing a thrifted sweatshirt usually with an interesting logo that I probably don't even know the origin.
