Millie gets a thrifted bowl.

Are you, right now, at this very moment, wearing anything thrifted? Do you buy thrifted garments? Why or why not?

I have an Old Navy polar fleece vest on today that I thrifted for a whole .75.  I don't usually check out the clothes at my local ts, as they are normally from low end retail. Every once in awhile I will scan the racks and pick out a more upscale label and if it's appropriate for me and my size, might buy it. When I go to DD's in Big City, then we will hit a few ts and  find higher end retail labels. I'm really not a label snob, but figure when I'm spending a couple of bucks or less on something, I can afford to shop for better quality. How about you? Are you wearing thrifted right now??

Thrifted T-shirt yes, it's a St. John's Bay T. Shorts, no. I bought them at Target to wear to work at the Navy SEAL Museum on weekends. I looked for camo shorts at a thrift for weeks before I had to buy new.

I'm so ashamed.  Embarrassed

I have bought clothing in a thrift shop before, but because of my size requirements (tall & thin) its hard to find anything out there.  I have a really cool french cuff shirt that I always get complements on, a London Fog trenchcoat, a vintage London Fog wool overcoat, and a really nice suit, all thrifted.

There just isn't much out there in thrifts for me as far as shirts or pants are concerned because I have long arms & legs.  I used to look a lot, but I've pretty much given up.  I do give the overcoats & trench coats a once over though.  I would love to find a military issue trench coat in my size and in good condition but I've been looking for years, haven't found it yet.

Nope - not wearing anything thrifted.

BUT - I do have a ton of stuff that I've thrifted.

Yep - I wear a small or sometimes medium, and tend to find lots of Ann Taylor and Ralph Lauren, looking brand new, at thrifts, so yes, most days! Smiley

What am I wearing that's thrifted? Let's see: Oversized heavy men's b&w plaid flannel shirt, from the bins at the Goodwill, where clothes are .99 a lb.  Tan leather AE wide belt, $1 at a thrift, Mexico Taxco earrings, $1 from a church flea market.

(I have other clothes on, of course, but they are not thrifted).

This is an excellent topic because every time I get dressed, I try to make sure that at least one of my items is thrifted.

Clothes are a nightmare for me in this community.  First of all, I am a petite (read: short), middle-aged lady and most of the stuff is either size 0 or size 22, which is great if you are those sizes. Peace. I'm a size 8-10, sometimes even a 6, so I very rarely find anything that fits (that I can stomach). Secondly, 99.9% of the clothes are age-inappropriate...hooker or grammie style. I am neither, so if any of y'all are either, you'd do well to shop here. Agewise, if you are 18 or 80, the thrifts here are the place to shop. Newly-wed/nearly dead.  Though I imagine if you worked in an office you'd find lots of office-type clothes (polyesters).

I read an interesting article in the WSJ on Saturday about how the fashion industry is very excited about Michelle Obama being the next first lady. The industry is hoping she'll renovate the fashion scene because of her innate personal style. Predictions are that we'll be seeing more bright colors and  prints and that the OVER 40 woman will be THE trendsetters now, instead of  12 year old girls.  Issac Mizrahi made a GREAT statement, bless his heart. He said that Mrs. Obama will be a relief because sizewise she is neither stick thin or obese. Yeay!

Great find on the vest at a great price!

It would be easier to ask what I'm wearing that's NOT thrifted.  Socks and underwear, that's it.  I can't remember the last time I bought an article of clothing in a retail store, unless you count my motorcycle jacket.

SeSo, your clothing options sound miserable.  (Although I sometimes indulge in hooker clothes.  Wish I had more opportunities to dress nasty, but alas, I don't.)

I'm interested in seeing what Michelle Obama brings to the White House, fashion-wise.  She's tall and has a good figure and she's not the least bit frumpy or dowdy.  After Barbara Bush's matronly dresses, Hillary Clinton's godawful pantsuits and Laura Bush's unmemorable non-style, I hope Michelle brings some flair to Washington.

I can say the same today- all thrifted but the socks & undies.  Poor Hillary has heavy, unattractive legs, so she is doomed to a life of pantsuits.  You really wouldn't want to see her in a skirt.

I have a similar problem to Jay with finding clothes at thrifts. Because I'm tall, my thrifted clothes always seem to be too short in the legs or the sleeves. I am, however, frugal about buying clothes. But you'll much more likely catch me carrying a thrifted purse, shoes or jewelry than regular clothes.

I did grow up on wearing thrifted clothes, though.

I wear pretty much all thrifted clothes except for underwear, socks and shoes. Shoes are because I seldom find anything in the thrifts that fit and are decent.

However, I must say that I have actually bought two items this year retail, though on clearance.  I got a LL Bean insulated barn coat for a ridiculous low price and also an Eddie Bauer dress which was also very inexpensive.

But everything else--thrifted!

LOL, with my feet I can't even thrift shoes, I wear an 11.5 EEEE.  Yeah, If I don't find tall sizes the sleeves and legs are way too short.  Even shopping in the stores is difficult.  Take pants for example.  I wear a 35/34.  Now that is a very hard size to find to begin with.  I usually end up buying a 36/34 and wearing a belt.  However, when shopping in the stores most 36's I find are in the 28" - 30" range for length.  Like everyone with a 36" waist is short & fat.  When I do go shopping I usually buy new clothes either in an outlet store, or I buy them in Kohl's on clearance.  I never purchase clothes in Wal-Mart.  That stuff just doesn't last.

first of all I have to say Im sitting here laughing at myself for misreading SeSos *mexican taco earrings* thanks SeSo, cuz this day was looking BAD.
Im wearing thrifted pants and a yard sale necklace and my purse is from a TS as well.
Im quite sure that I wear something everyday that is thrifted. What I love most is all the compliments on different things and I LOVE telling ppl its from a TS, especially for the shock value.

A lot of my clothes are from thrift stores.  It beats paying retail!

My entire outfit today is thrift.  I am wearing a brown Studio Works funnel turtleneck with brown dress pants (can't think of the brand).  I'm also wearing a brown pair of Aerosole shoes!  Whole outfit cost me less than $15.

Haha... this one is PERFECT for me today...

Both the shirt AND the Jeans i'm wearing i got for FREE!

My friend lent me a shirt one time, and when i returned it, he said "keep it, it looks better on you anyway"

the jeans were given to me by a good friend who was simply being generous because he has a TON of clothes...

WOW! i just realized my shoes were ALSO free!!!!!

a friend of mine had a GIANT box of shoes in her car she was taking to the goodwill that an ex-roommate left behind. she let me pick one pair out!

it's a good thing too, cuz i spend all my money on records...lol.
