Overheard another shopper at the GW --- she was looking for an ugly Christmas sweater for a contest.

Amazingly, they didn't have any -- not in the men's section either.

LOL, & I have seen some REALLY UGLY holiday sweaters at the GW in the past. Wink

hey, at my thrift store they color code the ugly sweaters! i think they are trying to merchandize them! i'm waiting for them to break them into sub-categories of "christmas trees", "oversized ornaments", "snowflake patterns"...

Suddenly I'm flashing back to a sweater my dad had with a giant reindeer on it...

It came from the thrift store...

And it went BACK to the thrift store.  Grin

my dad wears his christmas sweatshirt yearly - it features santa and the reindeer on top of an outhouse - and santa's saying "Rudolph, I said the SCHMITT house"

That sounds like a fun contest.  I bet the thrift stores love things like Halloween, ugly sweater contest, white elephant swap, etc.  It helps move the merchandise.  Now I've started thinking about the ugliest sweater I've been gifted and I'm coming up blank.

Like that sweatshirt, I've seen one like it.

MIL manages to find hideous Christmas themed apparel for me annually. If you find a bizarre and peculiar Christmas sweater in a ts, still nwt, I donated it. It probably won't fit you, either. I think there is a size sensor in it and it automatically adjusts so that it won't ever properly fit anyone. Bad enough it's shockingly, embarrassingly grotesque, but it's all that AND always the wrong size! Did I mention it was probably cheap, too?

superiorgirl, rothlmbo!!

Also love that "Schmidtt house" sweatshirt!

My mom, bless her heart, who was quite the trendsetter back in the 60s, suddenly got into the themed sweatshirt thing in the late 90s. She had ones with "Christmas Kittens" on them which she wore during the holidays and then sent to me' cause the knows I worship cats.

Those sweatshirts make me shreik through the night in nameless terror, lol, but they were my mom's and she sent them from her heart, so I kept them. I always found that sort of thing quite dreadful. Is waking up one morning and suddenly loving them part of the aging process?

If so...

Be afraid. Be very, very, afraid.

I probably saw one of your sweaters at the ts the other day!  It was a sweater vest, lime green with pink flamingos on it wearing santa hats.  It still had the the tags on it.  I would have bought it for a friend except I saw a coffee stain on it.  The person receiving it probably spit their coffee out in shock.

Funny thing is that from time to time I will bring some of the new but can't possibly use it presents to work, put them on the conference table with a sign that says 'Take anything you want' and those nasty Christmas items ALWAYS go home with someone!! Do you think they are taking them for themselves or to use as a gift for someone?

Lime green with flamingos wearing Santa hats - actually sounds pretty good to some of the stuff I've received!!! lol.

Well, no one has mentioned the clothing items that have small lights or play music... I remember selling those at the Broadway dept. store... mind you -- you can't easily clean those things... socks & ties & sweatshirts & sweaters etc... Cheesy

aren't those the things that get worn to the drunking office parties, once then tossed (or donated?)   LOL
