I made some major scores today.

For less than $40.00, I scored the following:

Equipment

Onkyo TS-SV50PRO Receiver
Onkyo DX-C310 CD Player
Onkyo TA-RW404 Dual Cassette Deck

Albums
Bob Dylan - Greatest Hits Volume 2 - double vinyl album - good cover, VG+ vinyl
Bob Seger & The silver Bullet Band Nine Tonight - double live album - Mint- cover, mint- vinyl
Pat Metheny Watercolors - Mint- cover, mint vinyl
Men at Work - Business As Usual - Mint cover, mint- vinyl (my 3rd copy)

Tapes
Steely Dan - Can't Buy a Thrill (Oh yeah? Try thrifting!)
Steely Dan - Pretzel Logic
Kraftwerk - Autobahn
Kraftwerk - Electric Cafe
Kraftwerk - Computer World
Kraftwerk - Radio Activity
Kraftwerk - The Man Machine
Elvis Costello - Punch The Clock
Elvis Costello - This Year's Model
Elvis Costello - The Costello Show (King of America)
Elvis Costello - Goodbye Cruel World
Elvis Costello - 10 Bloody Marys and 10 How's Your Fathers
Joe Jackson - Beat Crazy
Joe Jackson - Blaze of Glory
Joe Jackson - Will Power
Joe Jackson - Body and Soul
Parliament - Mothership Connection
Steve Forbert - Steve Forbert
Steve Forbert - Streets of this Town
Various - Super Hits of the 70's - Have a Nice Day, Volume 11
Various - Dazed and Confused Soundtrack
Eric Clapton - Journeyman
Talking Heads - More Songs About Buildings and Food
Gin Blossoms - New Miserable Experience

(It was like someone donated their entire cassette collection - there was a lot more stuff, but I couldn't buy more)  All the tapes were in excellent condition - these hadn't spent their lives in the dirty back seat of a 4th-hand hatchback.

A blank Sony High Bias Cassette UX-90 still sealed
and a 20 oz Diet Pepsi

That is all.

Geez louise, how many trips to the car did you have to make? That's a TON of stuff for $40.

About 4 - Goodwill, in their infinite wisdom, has welded these inane poles to their shopping carts, so you have to carry your purchases to your car.  Usually, it doesn't affect me, but today was like stumbling into King Solomon's Mines.  I couldn't move without finding something else.

I also picked up another Carerra GO!!! slot set at Savers - $20.00, complete, and with two extra cars!  (this wasn't part of the <$40.00, so I didn't include it in the original e-mail)

Too much!  Days like this only come along once in a blue moon.

That is all.

BDA--Congrats on your day!  You really scored BIG-time!  Ahhh, the rush!

I don't think I've ever seen a Dylan album secondhand anywhere.

What do you do with your cassettes...do you copy them to CD or listen to them in their original state?

Is the song, "The Model" on one of those tapes?

I grew up on some Kraftwerk, great Euro Synth pop!

Last time I saw a slot car set in Goodwill it was $40, and it didn't even have the cars, just some busted up pieces of rusty track in a nice box.

It's on The Man Machine, side 2, first track.

BTW - the equipment all works perfectly, with no major scuffs - the cassette deck even still has the clear plastic "window coating" in place over both well windows and the LCD display...SWEET!

This is going to sound like I'm rubbing your nose in it (I'm not), but this was actually the second copy of Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits, Volume 2 that I came across today - the first one was at a different store (Goodwill at 35th and Greenway) and was pretty much trashed (also missing one of the albums).  I also came across 2 copies - same store as the trashed Dylan offering - of Elton John's Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy (both crappy condition) AND an absolutely MINT cover of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road without any vinyl.  How can you put something like that out?  I also saw a Tom Bodett tape set (2 tapes, one missing - they must not have checked) for $3.99.  Also - a really nice (probably close to mint) copy of Bruce Springsteen's Darkness on the Edge of Town that for some reason warranted a $4.99 price tag (while all the other albums were $.99).  Passed on that.

At the store where I had my major find was also a copy of Dylan's Slow Train Coming, but the cover had split, there was no inner sleeve, and the vinyl wasn't very good.  I guess we have quite a few Dylan albums kicking around here in Phoenix.

For the Record - the store with this amazing haul was on Happy Valley at 15th Ave

That is all.

You're not rubbing it in, BDA, I am very happy for your success.  Seek hard, find hard.
I will ask my DH, who is really the one with record expertise in family to look for Dylan, maybe he will find him.

Doesn't itjust make you grit your teeth when you find an empty album jacket? I found the ~kewlest~ June Christie cover the other day, with no record in it!  Grrrrrrrrrr.

PS: I Have "A Love Supreme" by Coltrane. I used to teach/do Yoga to it.  My students didn't dig it toooo much, but I love it.  I have it on CD.  Are you looking for the record album?  One Coltrane record I would love to find is "Journey to Satchidananda" by Alice.

Ciao, and Peace,
SeSo

Wow, those sound like some awesome finds.

Many thrift stores have started doing that pole on the carts so you can't remove the cart from the store.  Makes it really hard when you have a cart full of stuff.  What if someone steals one of my bags while I'm putting stuff I can carry in my car?

To cap off -

I got out of the house early this morning and went back to 7th Street and Union Hills GW to pick up a pair of "punk-ish" navy blue Doc Martens boots for my older daughter.  (They were a size 6 mens and she's a size 7 womens, so it might work).  They were still there, and $5.99 later, I'm airing them out using an ozone generator.  I'll have to go to the supermarket to get some blue scuff cover and blue Kiwi polish to make them look really nice, but she's worth it.  Throw in some funky laces and she's got something.

I didn't get them originally, because I didn't know if she'd be interested, but she said she would, so I was lucky and they were still there.

That is all.

You're a good dad for doing that! And how great she's already trained in the ways of the thrift-- understanding that if it's "cool" it's perfectly fine if it's secondhand. :-)

Hope she loves 'em!

I went to the Goodwill store in downtown Winter Haven Florida on Friday, and was amazed at all of the cool stuff they actually had.But I was with my BIL and his fiancee who was looking for a lawn mower and couldn't find one... plus they were in a hurry so I did find a lot of purses that caught my eye plus dishes...but I plan on going back and taking the hubby with me so we can actually shop.
