I would imagine many here bought some Christmas gifts at the thrift store.  I found some nice new things this year that I gave as gifts.  The best one was a Krups espresso maker with milk frother from Sal Army that was new in the box for 5 bucks.  Got the report back from my daughter and her boyfriend that it works great and makes cafe quality coffee drinks.

Anyone else score any great Christmas presents?

This year, I attempted to thrift ALL the Christmas presents I gave. It didn't quite pan out, because sometimes you just can't find everything. But I think I did quite well. A lot of books, and some random collectibles. Even some toys for my daughter. Most of it came from garage sales, and what I bought online, I tried to buy used. I think I saved a lot of money!

I have often "wrapped" gifts in thrifted items.  I once wrapped a gift in a thrifted chrome breadbox from the 50's.

Really good friend of mine got a partially thrifted gift this year - a sealed 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle of a vintage fire truck - two things I learned about him this year.

I found out that he loves jigsaw puzzles, but alas, he can't really get into them because of his kids - still a little young - so we have to start and finish the puzzle in one sitting.

He also loves vintage fire trucks, so this was a perfect fit.

I found an unopened DVD set of the first season of The Muppet Show for $15 - retail tag still on it said $39.99.  My sister (who is a big kid at heart) loved it.

I bought a lot of my christmas presents at Goodwill the last few years, mostly movies and music. My tuba teacher got a VHS copy of Tubby the Tuba (she has little kids) and I gave my friends cassette tapes for their old cars (because let's be real, a lot of high schoolers still drive cars with cassette players but they don't sell cassettes anywhere but thrift stores!)

I see some good VHS titles at thrifts but the problem is many people I know have ditched their VCRs.  My friend just had a birthday and is her early 40's like me.  I got her a "Dancing Grannies" excercise video as a joke since she got me Buns of Steel several years ago as a birthday gift.  I know she doesn't have a VCR, but the pictures on the box are so funny that it is still worth the 99 cents.  I was giggling all the way out of the store, people probably thought I was a weirdo.

I don't know anyone who has cassette players anymore either.  i actually gave up on cassettes back when CDs first came out because I think the sound quality decreases over time, especially if you play them alot and I hate having to rewind or fast forward.  I prefer records.

I remember looking forward to the Muppet Show every week!

I'm not a gift thrifter, since most of my gifts are taking people to dinner and stuff.  At least until there's a thrift store that offers that somehow...

When I lived in an apartment., around Christmas time my landlord would come up to my apartment and pick out vintage gifts for his family from my sales stock.  I called it my 'shop at home' service.

I usually give new gifts, but if someone gave me a thrifted gift of something I collect, I would love it!

Another thing to consider is that many times you find new items with tags in thrifts for pennies on the dollar of the original retail price.

Yes, the new with tag stuff is usually what I buy for gifts and pass them off like I bought them at a retail store, haha
