Sheesh, what's with all the hatin'?  I'm "petite" (5' 3 1/2").  I don't look down my nose at tall women, and no tall gal has ever been mean to me because of my size.  Why would anyone care if someone is tall or short?  It's not like you can control your height.  (Although my dear Nana, who topped out at 4' 8" before she started shrinking, once told me I was "getting too tall!" when I hit the five-foot mark.  In my family, I'm an amazon.)

I have a battered old globe that has a whole lot more character than a brand new one would have.  It has a hole in the Atlantic Ocean that I've decided is the drain.  When somebody pulls that plug, we're doomed.   Wink...

Thanks for the chuckle! Cheesy

I'm not big on chips or cracks unless I REALLY love the item. But grease and grime and dirt I like! I love to bring something home that's a bit dirty or grimy and give it a good clean and discover its prettiness. Cheesy

I love a bit of wear on furniture. Not creaky or falling apart, but used.

I don't like to touch things that look too new. Too 'precious'. I want to touch something and sniff it and smell its oldness. Cheesy

Oh, I want to get in on the height thing too! Cheesy

I am 5'10" and a size 12 and I can *never* find clothes at thrifts! I have bought a few jackets (I love jackets!) but I can never find trousers or jeans or tops that fit. I have bosoms and hips for Pete's sake! Roll Eyes Who are these "average" folks?

So are all you tall women (yes Mattie, that includes you,too Grin Grin) telling me I'm the shortest person on this board?  Yowza. I'm honored, I think...

Yeah, who are all those women who get to buy clothes off the rack?  I want names, darn it all!

Yes, tiamatgreen that's exactly what I do...wear what I want (when it fits, and sometimes even if it doesn't Shocked)

Mattie, I love your globe and your understanding of your globe. Now, that's a special piece.

Mrs. GW...Clean, clean, clean, scrub, scrub, scrub, and a couple of la-dee-dahs...that's how we clean our thrift bargains in the Merry Olde Land of Oz.  PS:  Yeah, those bosoms and hips can certainly, uh, influence, shall we say, a girl's fashion choice

Ciao, All My Pretties!

Jackets are hard for me too. I have broad shoulders and am 'amply endowed' so jackets are usually to narrow across the shoulders, the sleeves are too short, and/or if they fit in the chest are too baggy in the waist. Same with tops. The only clothing item I seem to have any luck with are skirts, because I mostly only have to worry about the fit in the waist and hips and they are a bit more forgiving as far as length as long as it is not a very tailored shape.

When I was younger I was considered tall.  I used to be called the Jolly Green Giant by kids in school.  I hated being the tallest in my class.  Now I find many women taller than me and I'm kind of jealous that they're taller, it makes me feel average.

I too have always had trouble finding clothes that fit right.  Sleeves and pant legs were too short, blouses weren't long enough, etc.  I used to make some of my own clothes, just some easy patterns though nothing complicated like Vogue, just to have something to wear.  From sewing I discovered that I have a long torso which is why most blouses have never fit me right in the length.  I had to add about 2 inches to the bodice of a dress for it to fit right.  Now that women sizes seem to be a little taller than they were when I was younger I can wear some of the slacks in the length.  Now that I mostly wear shorts I don't have as much trouble as I did when I wore less casual clothes.

I agree, ChrissMiss, that sewing is a good way avoid the fitting problems with off the rack stuff.  I would have to alter a pattern, too, because I am also long-waisted, but I'm sure if I got faster and better at sewing it would be worth it to me to make my own stuff.  I love going to the fabric store and fantasizing about all the clothes I could make to fit me perfectly in the exact fabric and color I wanted (in this fantasy I'm an excellent seamstress, of course).  I'm considered "average" height I guess at 5'7", but I still have the full bust fitting problem, too, and it's hard to find stuff that fits across the bustline but is not too big in the arms and shoulders.  I hate the gaping button problem and don't like wearing tight or clingy stuff.  Boy I sound old, huh?
