I'm just weird...I don't enjoy a/c.  I'd rather have the window open.  Especially when I'm thrifting it seems the a/c doesn't cool the car enough before I'm at the next store.

On all my vehicles the a/c is cold and fast.  I do not tolerate a/c that kinda works.  Even on my old Buick that uses the old R-12 freon I pay the money whenever the a/c needs service.

In Phoenix, A/C is kinda of a way of life for much of the year.  When the temp hits triple digits in April, you know you're in for a hot one.

I used to do "sweeps" of the GWs in the greater valley are on 50% off Saturdays.  That was back in the day when eBay had not yet crossed over to the "dark side" and straight up deals could still be done.  Then gas prices soared (when we first moved to Phoenix in 2002, gas was $1.24 per gallon when we got here.  Today, down at the corner, it's $2.96 - which may be a screaming deal, depending on where you live).

When gas got so expensive and the no-good-niks invaded eBay, it was time to end the "sweeps."  I don't miss it.  The hunter mentality would drive me.  Some weeks, I'd come back with a car load of goods that were bona fide guaranteed sellers - other times I was completely skunked.  I guess that's what kept me going.

See you next time

I am definitely not the early bird type -- I don't think I'd get up at 5AM to shop for anything (then again, I never thought I'd be paying $3.30 a gallon for gas either...).  I do most of my yard/garage sale adventuring in the summer.  Where we spend our weekend summers, it's mostly a seasonal population.  They don't seem to be getting up early either.  I'll drive by a lot of spots on my way back to camp with the dog (when I have a dog) that aren't even getting busy by 10AM.

I don't generally thrift earlier either. Thrifting (as with GSing) sometimes yields better bargains later in the day once things start getting marked down.

Thriftily,
Alexandra

Hi Alexandra, I was wondering where you've been. Hope all is well and that you are staying warm!

Yeah, I know what y'all mean about that gas thing...Holy Cow! I remember in HS complaining about 42 cents a gallon, lol. Little did we know, lol.

I'd like to GS where you do. It sounds like a very laid-back crowd to me.

Cheers,

I can remember in high school I used to put premium in my old Pontiac station wagon for about $1/gal.

We have a Honda and it takes a while for the a/c to cool the car down.  Most American cars have great a/c's in them.

When we were in Vegas in July and it was in the 112+ degree range it was pretty warm, but it's a dry heat LOL.  I don't care where you are that's HOT!  I couldn't rest my arm on the car door it would burn me.  Needless to say I'd be back home early those days.  I'd hit the stores as soon as they opened and only do a few before it was just too hot for me.

Hey Alexandra, I was wondering where you were.  Glad you're back on the forum.

Speaking of gas prices, when I was a young kid we lived in Texas and the gas prices were very low.  We moved to Mississippi and my dad was always complaining that the gas was so expensive at 32 cents.

I have never owned a foreign car or truck.  On my truck (1998 GMC Sierra) the a/c is so cold that if left on high you will actually get a headache from the cold like you just ate ice cream too fast.  Years ago I used to have a 1974 Chevy pickup that was really ugly, but had a/c so cold you could keep ice cream in it.  Once I parked that truck and I left the engine and a/c running on high because I thought I would only be a minute.  20 minutes later I came back out and the windows were frosted up.

This thread seems to be "tangenting" onto gas - I used to take photos of gas station price signs - the big ones out by the roadside - don't know why - just did.  Anyway, the one that I have up over my desk has regular at .86 per gallon - Bordentown, NJ - 1998.  That's only 10 years ago, folks.  As an aside, Diesel was 1.01 per gallon.

See you next time

Hubby and I work till 2am, so if I wanted to be somewhere at 6, I would just stay up and then go to bed when I got home. I go to bed around 6 or 7 am most nights anyhow.  Smiley

I'm a night owl.  I'd much rather shop late than early.   Wink

As for garage sales, I don't usually get up for them, unless it's really something I have been looking for.  I have to work every other Saturday until 1pm so that pretty much shoots 2 Saturdays a month.  Some of the garage sales start on Friday afternoons though.  If I happen to be driving by on the way home from work I might stop.

A/C...my 98 Explorer is without and I hate it!  I cannot be hot!  My dh's SUV has really good air and plenty of room so if I need to go far I take that one.
